HSIP funding is intended to make significant progress in reducing highway fatalities and injuries by implementing safety improvements at locations identified as problem areas through collision data analysis. Appropriation of these funds will provide for an improvement to the signalization at the High and Court intersection with an appropriately designed signal for this downtown area. Financial Impact: . None. The cost of this project will be borne totally by VDOT as a reimbursement of project costs expended by Portsmouth no matching funds are required from City of Portsmouth. Recommended Action: . Adoption of an ordinance appropriating in the FY 2009-2010 Capital Improvements Fund the sum of $300,000 received from the Virginia Department of Transportation Highway Safety Improvements Program to replace the traffic signal system at High and Court Streets.
