HSIP funding is intended to make significant progress in reducing highway <br />fatalities and injuries by implementing safety improvements at locations identified as <br />problem areas through collision data analysis. Appropriation of these funds will provide <br />for an improvement to the signalization at the High and Court intersection with an <br />appropriately designed signal for this downtown area. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />. None. The cost of this project will be borne totally by VDOT as a reimbursement <br />of project costs expended by Portsmouth no matching funds are required from City of <br />Portsmouth. <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br />. Adoption of an ordinance appropriating in the FY 2009-2010 Capital <br />Improvements Fund the sum of $300,000 received from the Virginia Department of <br />Transportation Highway Safety Improvements Program to replace the traffic signal <br />system at High and Court Streets. Vision Principle: Bold New Directions. <br /> <br />Next Steps: <br />. The Engineering Department applied for and received a grant of $300,000 <br />through the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission for Highway Safety <br />Improvement Program (HSIP) funds to replace the traffic signal system at High and <br />Court Streets. <br />. To receive these funds, the City Council is required to approve a Programming <br />Resolution requesting VDOT to establish this project as urban system highway project <br />and sign the City/State administration agreement. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />.
