<br />September 22. 2009 <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Mr. Smith, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $319 IN THE FY 2009-2010 LAW LIBRARY FUND." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />09 - 491 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting a grant in the amount of $159,253 from <br />the Bureau of Justice Assistance of the U.S. Department of Justice for Operational and <br />Technology Funding for the Drug Court Program. Vision Principle: Thriving <br />Neighborhoods and a Sense of Community and Bold New Directions. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The Portsmouth Police Department has received grant funding of $159,253 from <br />the Department of Justice - Bureau of Justice Assistance to provide funds for <br />technology, equipment along with continued funding to support the Drug Court Program. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The FY2009 Justice Assistance Grant will be used to provide funding for <br />equipment, technology initiatives that will improve the Portsmouth Police Department's <br />ability to respond to incidents within the City. Additionally funds will be used to support <br />the Adult Drug Court programs within the Circuit Court. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />. The grant award amount is $159,253 of Department of Justice funds for the <br />Portsmouth Police Department. The City does not have to provide any match monies <br />and there is no obligation from the City once the grant has ended. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />. Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate the $159,253 from the Department of <br />Justice grant to provide funds for technology, equipment along with continued funding to <br />support Drug Court Program to the Portsmouth Police Department. Vision Principle: Thriving Neighborhoods and a Sense of <br />Community. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The City has received a request from William O. Watson, owner of property <br />located at 113 Gee Street, known as Lot 218 on the Plat of Highland-Biltmore, Plat <br />Number 7, to release a 10 foot utility easement located across the eastern portion of <br />said property as shown on the subdivision plat. <br />
