Sadly this is no longer possible <br />under the Mayor's leadership. For reasons which have become clear to the entire <br />community. With sincere appreciation for his historic service and with gentleness as <br />someone whose voice has long called us together as a community and as a family, it is <br />time to call upon him to retire and to allow us and those who will follow us to carry on <br />the work of this City. <br /> <br />With appreciation for his commitment to our progress but mindful of our obligations, as <br />elected leaders to carry this City forward, I respectfully move that the Mayor announce <br />and Council accept, tonight, his retirement from service to the City effective <br />immediately." <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Ms. Psimas, that the Mayor announce <br />and Council accept his retirement from service to the City effective immediately, and <br />was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst <br />Nays: Holley <br /> <br />09 - 425 - Report on Pending Items <br /> <br />. Bernadette Hogge, Ombudsman, gave an update on items of concern presented by <br />citizens at the July 28, 2009 City Council Meeting. <br /> <br />09 - 426 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />1. Joe Wright, 1451 Welcome Road, reminded citizens that the pool in Cavalier Manor <br />is for all residents of Portsmouth and gave a historical account of how much of the <br />recreation in Cavalier Manor came into existence. <br /> <br />2. Ted Lamb, 301 Allen Road, voiced his concern with recent media coverage with <br />regards to the Mayor. <br /> <br />3. Martha Ann Creecy, 317 Dinwiddie Street, voiced her disappointment in an elected <br />official's decision to take the City to court resulting in what she believes is a "waste" <br />of $90,000. <br /> <br />4.
