<br />January 27.2009 <br /> <br />- City Manager's Report - <br /> <br />09 - 56 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting a grant in the amount of $4,800 from the <br />Virginia Wireless E-911 Services Board and appropriating said amount in the FY 2008- <br />2009 Grants Fund to provide funds for technology and equipment for the Emergency <br />Communications Unit of the Portsmouth Police Department. Vision Principle: Thriving <br />Neighborhoods and a Sense of Community and Bold New Directions. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The Emergency Communications Unit has received grant funding of $4,800.00 <br />from the Virginia Wireless E-911 Services Board to provide funds for technology and <br />equipment. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The grant will be used to provide funding for technology and equipment initiatives <br />that will improve the department's ability to respond to incidents within the City. <br />. The Emergency Communications Unit will acquire E-911 mapping system <br />monitors which will enable dispatchers to track public safety personnel position location <br />in real time. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />. The grant award amount is $4,800.00 of Virginia Wireless E-911 Services Board <br />funds for the Emergency Communications Unit. The City does have to provide an in- <br />kind match of $1,200.00. The required in-kind match has already been budgeted. <br />There is no obligation from the City once the grant has ended <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />. Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate the $4,800.00 from the Virginia Wireless <br />E-911 Services Board to provide funds for technology & equipment for the Emergency <br />Communications Unit. Vision Principle: Thriving Neighborhoods and a Sense of <br />Community and Bold New Directions. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br />. The Chief of Police or his designee will provide grant management and oversight. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Heretick, and seconded by Mr. Smith, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $4,800 FROM THE <br />VIRGINIA WIRELESS E-911 SERVICES BOARD AND APPROPRIATING SAID <br />AMOUNT IN THE FY 2008-2009 GRANTS FUND TO PROVIDE FUNDS FOR <br />TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT FOR THE EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS <br />UNIT OF THE PORTSMOUTH POLICE DEPARTMENT." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Psi mas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />09 - 57 - Adoption of an ordinance appropriating in the FY2008-2009 Behavioral <br />Healthcare Fund the sum of $60,000 allocated by the Virginia Department of Mental <br />Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services for use by the Department <br />of Behavioral Healthcare Services for the Jail Diversion Initiative. Vision Principle: <br />Thriving Neighborhoods and a Sense of Community. <br />
