January 27.2009 - City Manager's Report - 09 - 56 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting a grant in the amount of $4,800 from the Virginia Wireless E-911 Services Board and appropriating said amount in the FY 2008- 2009 Grants Fund to provide funds for technology and equipment for the Emergency Communications Unit of the Portsmouth Police Department. The Emergency Communications Unit has received grant funding of $4,800.00 from the Virginia Wireless E-911 Services Board to provide funds for technology and equipment. Discussion: . The grant will be used to provide funding for technology and equipment initiatives that will improve the department's ability to respond to incidents within the City. . The Emergency Communications Unit will acquire E-911 mapping system monitors which will enable dispatchers to track public safety personnel position location in real time. Financial Impact: . The grant award amount is $4,800.00 of Virginia Wireless E-911 Services Board funds for the Emergency Communications Unit. The City does have to provide an in- kind match of $1,200.00. The required in-kind match has already been budgeted. There is no obligation from the City once the grant has ended Staff Recommends: . Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate the $4,800.00 from the Virginia Wireless E-911 Services Board to provide funds for technology & equipment for the Emergency Communications Unit. The Chief of Police or his designee will provide grant management and oversight. Motion by Mr. Heretick, and seconded by Mr. Smith, to adopt the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: "ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $4,800 FROM THE VIRGINIA WIRELESS E-911 SERVICES BOARD AND APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT IN THE FY 2008-2009 GRANTS FUND TO PROVIDE FUNDS FOR TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT FOR THE EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS UNIT OF THE PORTSMOUTH POLICE DEPARTMENT." Ayes: Heretick, Psi mas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley Nays: None 09 - 57 - Adoption of an ordinance appropriating in the FY2008-2009 Behavioral Healthcare Fund the sum of $60,000 allocated by the Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services for use by the Department of Behavioral Healthcare Services for the Jail Diversion Initiative.
