Background:
. For many years, Law Enforcement agencies through the Hampton Roads region
have entered into Mutual Aid Agreements to authorize interjurisdictional assistance and
cooperation. The proposed agreement merely updates prior agreements.

. The localities that will be parties to the agreement are Chesapeake, Hampton,
Newport News, Norfolk, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg,
James City County, Isle of Wight County, York County, and Smithfield.
. The agreement authorizes voluntary inter-jurisdictional assistance and
cooperation between law enforcement agencies.
criminal investigations and prosecutions within that locality's jurisdiction.
. Financial Impact: No material financial impact.
