<br />adoption of an ordinance appropriating $16,000 from the Capital
<br />Improvements Fund to replace the heating system at the Vehicle
<br />Service Center. . ~,~ -.?

<br /> "The 1990-91 Capital Improvement Plan aUt~dr~d, $16',000
<br />for the replacement of obsolete and'worn out hea%ing sys-~ems in
<br />various City owned buildings. Among those buildings iden-
<br />tified as having the greatest need was the Vehicle Service
<br />Garage located at the City Operations~C~nte~ where the current
<br />gas-fired boiler system is no longer operational. ~: ,~'~ ~
<br />
<br /> Rather than repair the current boiler it is recommended
<br />that it be replaced wi~h~?~i~nt?~ating system. This type
<br />of heat has proven to be more fuel efficient than boiler
<br />systems and much~m~e,~ef'f~c~ive'f~ri use' i~n~ he~t~hg-l~g~~
<br />garage facilities~ ~

<br /> A liSt of ~he competitive bids is attached ,fd~
<br />review, The bid price of $13,390 is only for the purchase of
<br />the heating system components. Installation wilI be per-
<br />formed by employees of the Properties Management Division. The
<br />additional $2,610 is to cover contingency costs.
<br />
<br /> I, therefore, recommend auUropriation of $16,000
<br />authorized from the Capital Improvements Fund and award Of the
<br />bid to G. A. Downs and Sons, Inc, With your approval of this
<br />item, the balance in the Capital Improvements Fund will be
<br />$5,617,459."
