As a direct result of a tour taken by Commissioner Pam Kloeppel of <br />the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority, Police Chief Corvello, the <br />officers that patrol the public housing units, Lee Cherry of the Sheriff's Department, <br />and herself, there has been a vast improvement in lighting, tree removal and <br />pruning, and communication with neighbors. <br /> <br />'" Mr. Smith, as liaison to the Metropolitan Planning Organization, provided an update <br />on the possible decommissioning of the Jordan Bridge. <br /> <br />'" Mr. Whitehurst brought to City Manager Chandler's attention that the City Council <br />needed to ratify emergency action taken during tropical storm Hanna. <br /> <br />'" Mr. Moody reminded Staff that a representative of Safeway Cab asked that the City <br />Council increase the cab rates which would make them comparable to neighboring <br />localities and also offset the increasing gas prices. <br /> <br />. City Manager Chandler informed the City Council that the request to increase cab <br />rates has been reviewed by Staff and the Health Administrative Center Inspector, <br />and the conclusion from Staff is that a rate increase is not recommended at this <br />time. He also informed Council that this information has been communicated to the <br />representative of Safeway Cab. <br /> <br />'" Mayor Holley, with the concurrence of the City Council, appointed Councilwoman <br />Randall as liaison to the Umoja Festival and Sister's Cities Commission, Councilman <br />Whitehurst as liaison to the Planning Council and the Homelessness Committee, <br />and Vice Mayor Moody as liaison to the Elizabeth River Commission and Park. <br />
