<br />244 <br /> <br />July 22.2008 <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />- New Business - <br /> <br />08 - 346 - Boards and Commissions <br /> <br />There were no appointments. <br /> <br />08 - 347 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br />~ Ms. Randall, while informing City Council and citizens on the purpose of issuing <br />bonds to those companies in the Empowerment Zone, asked that the City Manager <br />research the records and give the City Council an account of how many people have <br />been employed by these companies in the HUB Zone. <br /> <br />08 - 348 - Report on Pending Items <br /> <br />. Mr. Chandler, City Manager, informed City Council that an invitation had been <br />extended to the City Assessor to attend the Council Advance and that a <br />presentation will be prepared that covers the assessment process and the <br />timetables that are involved. <br /> <br />08 - 349 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />1. Barry Shepard, 2001 Atlanta Avenue, asked that the City Council grant a rate <br />increase from $1.95 to $2.15 for taxi cabs in Portsmouth. <br /> <br />2. Anne White-Guertin, 442 Jamestown Avenue, asked that City Council develop a 10 <br />year plan to end homelessness in Portsmouth. <br /> <br />~ Mr. Smith requested that the City Manager provide additional information on the taxi <br />cab issue and the issue of homelessness in Portsmouth. <br /> <br />3. Christina Carlton, 88 Aylwin Road, wanted to bring to City Council's attention what <br />she feels is neglect of the four cemeteries in Fisher Hill and made suggestion as to <br />what it would take to preserve this part of Portsmouth's history. <br /> <br />4.
