2'96 March 24, 1992 WHEREAS, this relocation proposes to assist Virginia Employment Commission cli~-nts b~-b~ing located on the campus of the Tidewater Community College, in Suffolk, Virginia; and WHEREAS, this relocation will have a detrimental effect on citizens of the City o~'Portsmouth~_many of whom are dependent on convenient public transportation and vcho benefit from the centralized location of the Virginia Employment Commission's Office at $116 South Street, Portsmouth, Virginia; and · WHEREAS, the citizens of businesses are in the City of by the~additional travet! time this relocation; and~ Portsmouth and employers whose Portsmouth will be inconvenienced that will be~encountered due to WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, virginia, has considered all sueh matters and the impact that this relocation ~will~have on this urban eommunity in these economically stressed times. NOW, THEREFORE~ BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, hereby expresses its concern about the effect thatlthe relocation-will have on its citizens. and makes its opposition to this relocation known herewith and asks the Commission to maintain an office and a presence within~ our city limits. Ayes: Clemons, Corprew, Epperson, King, Hawks, Williams, Webb Nays: None 92.113-~ Mr. Ctemons submit,ted a resolution endorsing horseracing in the CommonWealth of Virginia and the City of Portsmouth. Substitute motion of Mr. Hawks and seconded by Mr. King to consider a resolution~endorsing horseracing after an opportunity for public commen% at the next Regular Council Meeting, and was adopted by unanimous vote.
