December 12, 2000 <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />that the City Manager be, and he hereby is authorized to convey to utility companies <br />such easements as are necessary for them to remove and reset utilities adjacent to the <br />improved Turnpike Road right of way." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Moody, Pitts, Robinett, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br />Abstained: Griffin (Mr. Griffin abstained due to property ownership.) <br /> <br />00 - 314 - Adoption of a resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute an <br />easement to Virginia Power for the new Social Services Building at 1701 High Street. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of a resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute an easement to <br />Virginia Power for the new Social Services Building at 1701 High Street. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· This easement has been requested by Virginia Power to provide a place for primary <br />distribution of electric power to the new Social Services building, and will be located <br />adjacent to County Street. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· There is no financial impact. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Robinett, and seconded by Mr. Moody, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN <br />EASEMENT TO VIRGINIA POWER TO BE LOCATED ADJACENT TO THE <br />NORTH SIDE OF COUNTY STREET. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the <br />City Manager be, and he hereby is, authorized to execute an easement to Virginia <br />Power for the provision of electric power to City property located in the area of County <br />Street, High Street and Williamsburg Avenue upon such terms as he deems appropriate <br />and in the best interest of the City." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Robinett, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />00 - 315 - Adoption of a resolution authorizing acquisition of the property containing the <br />First Union National Bank Building, 430 Crawford Street and approval of an ordinance <br />appropriating $1.8 million in the Capital Improvement Fund, for construction of the <br />proposed new downtown parking garage. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Approval of a resolution authorizing acquisition of the property containing the First <br />Union National Bank Building, 430 Crawford Street and approval of an ordinance <br />appropriating $1.8 million in the Capital Improvement Fund. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· The property containing the subject building also includes a large parking lot, which <br />is needed for construction of the proposed new downtown parking garage. <br /> <br />· The new parking garage will serve the proposed Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, the <br />Children's Museum, and numerous existing and future restaurants and shops on High <br />Street. <br /> <br />· It is anticipated that the property will be purchased by the City and then sold to a <br />private developer for $1.8 million. <br /> <br /> <br />
