August 25, 1992 <br /> <br /> At a regular meeting of the c~ty Council held on August <br />25, 1992, there were present: <br /> <br />Mayor Gloria O. Webb, Vice Mayor Lee Eo King, Johnny M. <br />Clemons, John H. Epperson, Bernard D. Griffin, Sr,, James <br />C. Hawks, Cameron C. Pitts, V. Wayne Orton, City Manager, <br />Stuart E. Katz, City Attorney. <br /> <br /> Rev. Devlaming A. Peace, Pastor of Zion Bethel of United <br />Church of Christ opened the meeting with prayer, followed by <br />the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Epperson and seconded by Mr. Griffin, <br />minutes of Special Called Meetings of August 6, 7, 8, 1992, a <br />Called Meeting of August 10, 1992, a Public Hearing Meeting of <br />August 10, 1992, a Called Meeting of August 11, 1992, and a <br />Regular Meeting of August 11, 1992, to be approved as received, <br />and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 92-281 - A resolution extending the congratulations of <br />City of Portsmouth to the Olive Branch Major League Girls <br />All-Star Team on winning the District Six and State <br />Championships in softball. <br /> <br />the <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Hawks and seconded by Mr. King, the <br />following resolution was adopted and by the following vote: <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE CONGRATULATIONS <br />OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH TO <br />THE OLIVE BRANCH MAJOR LEAGUE GIRLS ALL-STAR <br />TEAM ON WINNING THE DISTRICT SIX AND STATE <br />CHAMPIONSHIPS IN SOFTBALL. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Olive Branch Major League Girls All-Star Team <br />has won the 1992 District Six and State Championships in <br />softball; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, no team in the City of Portsmouth has ever won <br />the State Championship for Girls Major League Softball; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Carrie Cahoon, Jenna Pope, Nikki Goral, Tessa <br />Bassett, Crystal Holloway, Amanda Renfrow, Brandi White, Katie <br />Molenaar, Erin Osborne, Amy Struckman, Lynsey Ellis, Amanda <br />Johnson, Amanda Adams, and Shannon Weatherly have represented <br />their community and the City of Portsmouth in a commendable <br />manner throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the Council hereby recognizes <br />these accomplishments and extends its congratulations to the <br />Olive Branch Major League Girls All-Star Team. <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Epperson, Griffin, Hawks, King, Pitts, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />92-282 - Presentations: <br /> <br />Mayor Webb presented the resolution and T-shirts to the <br />members of the Olive Branch Major League Girls All-Star Team <br />and their coaches. <br /> <br />Mayor Webb presented a Key to the City to Angela Joen Thigpen, <br />Miss Portsmouth Seawall Festival 1992. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor King presented a special Board and CommissiOn lapel <br />pin to Dr. Maureen McCarthy, Emergency Medical Services <br />Commission. <br /> <br /> <br />
