Motion of Mr. Hawks, and seconded by Mr. King, tke ~ following resolution was adopted and by the following vote: "A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE!BEAZLEY.FOUNDATION ON FUNDtNG~ THE DENTAL PROGRAMS FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH. WHEREAS, in.1951 the Beazley Foundation established a~citY dental program for the children of Portsmouth, Virginia; and WHEREAS, in 1976 the Beazley. FOundation supplied a new building for the city dental program and all necessary equipment and materials and was responsible for the day,to~day ~ operations of the program; and WHEREAS7 ~in 1979 the Dental. Clinic became part of the State Health ~Departmeh~ with the'~Beazley~Foundation agreeing.~to fund the program as before while relinquishing day-to--dayi~- ~ operation to the State Health Department; and WHEREAS, in 1989, budget shortfalls threatened to ¢!6~e the City Dental Clinic, and the Beazley Foundation, in January of 1991 stepped in and funded the entire City Dental Program; and WHEREAS, i~1991 the Beazley Foulndation continued to if~nd the Dental Clinic through grants; and WHEREAS, in 199t, the Beazley Foundation funded a mobile dental trail'e~'to establish an addi~t}onal school den~al p~ogram to treat C~i~i~r~in ~he 'schools~n~ ~ .... ~'~ WHEREAS, the Beazley Foundation has generously agreed to fund both of the dental programs for the 1992-1993 fiscal year; WHEREAS, the Beazley Foundation's accomplishments have distinguished it as one who has successfully met the ne~eds of our community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the Council does hereby express - its appreciation for and pride in the achievements of the Beazley Foundation.
