~ovember 24, '1992 <br /> <br /> At the Regular Meeting of the City Council held on <br />Tuesday, November 24, 1992~ there were present: <br /> <br /> Mayor Gloria O. Webb, Vice Mayor Lee E. King, Johnny M. <br />Clemons, John H. Epperson, Bernard D. Griffin, James C. Hawks, <br />Cameron C. Pitts, V. Wayne ~Orton, City Manager, Stuart E. Katz, <br />City Attorney. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Eloise Baker opened the meeting~ by singing "My <br />Tribute" and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the <br />Flag. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Epperson and seconded by Mr. King, minutes <br /> of a Called Meeting of November 9, 1992, minutes of a Public <br /> Hearing Meeting of November 9, 1992, with the noted addition of <br /> Mr. Epperson's name to the attendance, minutes of a Called <br /> Meeting of November 10, 1992, minutes of a Regular Meeting of <br /> November 10, 1992 to be approved as received, and was adopted <br /> by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> The Mayor welcomed all in attendance. <br /> <br /> 92-392 - Resolution of appreciation for support from Virginia <br /> Power of the new economic development video entitled <br /> "Portsmouth, Virginia A City on the Move". <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Clemons and seconded by Mr. King, the <br /> following resolution was adopted and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION FOR VIRGINIA POWER. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth, Virginia has long <br />recognized the importance of an established Economic <br />Development Program in order to encourage the expansion and <br />location of compatible business and industry within the City; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City through its City of the Future <br />Initiative has recommitted and reaffirmed its commitment to <br />establishing'specific economic development goals and objectives <br />for the City of Portsmouth; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City and its business community, striving <br />together to'enhance the quality of life for its citizens and <br />clientele, respectively, and in an effort to increase business <br />potential in this City, entered into a joint venture with <br />Virginia Power to produce an economic development video <br />entitled, "PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA A CITY ON THE MOVE"; and <br /> WHEREAS, without the full support, cooperation and <br />expertise of Virginia Power, the creation of this excellent <br />production would have been virtually impossible; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City will utilize this video presentation in <br />its economic development promotional efforts to increase and <br />encourage quality business developmen~t. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the <br /> City of Portsmouth, Virginia hereby extends its sincere <br /> appreciation and gratitude to Virginia Power for its leadership <br /> role in the production of the economic development video, <br /> "PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA A CITY ON THE MOVE." <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be <br /> spread upon the minutes of this Council and that a copy be <br /> presented to Virginia Power in recognition of our appreciation <br /> and its generosity~" <br /> <br /> Ayes: Clemons, Epperson, Griffin, Hawks, King, Pitts, Webb <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> <br />
