The ~irector~of Public Work~ <br />recommends that $40,000 be appropriated at this time to be <br />utilized asa po~t~on'of the City'~s sh~re o~f:fundi-n~ for ~h~is <br />project. ~- <br /> <br /> I concur and recommend appropriation of the necessary <br />funds. With your approval of this item, the balance in the <br />Capital ImprovementsJFu~nd is $13~,463,329." <br /> <br /> Motio~.~of Mr~ Clemons and seccnded~by Mr. Griffin, the <br />following ~rdinan~ was adopted and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $40,000.00 FROM THE CAPITAL <br />IMPROVEMENTS FUND FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO CHURCHL~ND BOULEVARD." <br /> <br />AYES: Clemons~ Griffin, Hawks, King, Pitts, Webb ~ <br />NAYS: Epperson <br /> <br /> 93-15 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption <br />of an~ordinance ~o.appropriate $~0~,00~ from the Public utility <br />Capital Imp~r~vements Fund for improvements ~o the two inch <br />water main system ~ <br /> <br /> "Ih October of 1987, the City~ adopted an Infrastructur~e <br />Improvements Program to~ address Portsmouth's aging water and <br />sewage facilities.~ One of the multiyear tasks in this program <br />is the repl~cemen~ Of the 38.25 mi~es~of deteriorated two inch ~ <br />galvanized iron water main in Portsmouth's neighborhoods, <br />beginning wit~ithe oldest lines. This work is coordinated by <br />Public Utitities~wi%h both the Fire, Department (to iinsure fi.re <br />hydrants are added) and Public Works (to address street needs) <br />as this! W~or~ ~Progresses. <br /> <br /> Beginning with funding approved in 1990, this program has <br /> replaced 2.5 miles of 3two inch pipe in the~Shea Terrace, Mt. <br /> Hermon and Port Norfolk neighborhoods. The Director of Public <br /> Utilities is now requesting the appropriation of this year's <br /> "Infrastructure Improvements" CIP Funds ('$300,000) to continue <br /> this task. ~ <br /> <br /> Included in this year's funding will be the completion <br /> the two inch main replacement in Port Norfolk and the beginning <br /> of the two inch main ~eplacement i~' West ~Park View. <br /> Additionally, the funds will be used to begin the <br /> rehabilitation of two sewage suction wells (both built in the <br /> early 1920's). These suction wells are located at the <br /> intersections of Williamsburg Avenue and Columbia Street and at <br />'Industrial Avenue and Southern Avenue. <br /> <br /> <br />
