<br />November 28. 2006 <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The City, along with support from developers, intends to upgrade the roadways <br />of McLean Street and Cavalier Boulevard in the area of the new TCC campus and New <br />Port residential development. Since transportation funding from the state is extremely <br />limited, local funding will be required to complete this project. <br />. The Revenue Sharing program will allow the City to leverage its local funding by <br />receiving a match of up to $1,000,000 of state funds. The total project is expected to <br />cost around $8,000,000. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />. The financial impact to the city as a result of this proposal will be that $1,000,000 <br />will be required as matching funds from the city's Capital Improvements Program in FY <br />2007. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />Adoption of proposed resolution. Vision Principle: A Robust and Prospering Economy, <br />Lifelong Learning Community, and Thriving Neighborhood and a Sense of Community. <br /> <br />Next Steps following Council Action: <br />. The City Engineer will complete the application for the Revenue Sharing program <br />and submit to VDOT by December 22, 2006. <br />. Notification of successful applicants will not be made until at least late Spring of <br />2007. <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Psi mas, and seconded by Ms. Randall, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"RESOLUTION REQUESTING ALLOCATION OF FUNDS FROM THE VIRGINIA <br />DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FISCAL YEAR 2006-2007 REVENUE <br />SHARING PROGRAM FOR STREET AND INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS TO <br />CAVALIER BOULEVARD AND MCLEAN STREET IN THE PORTSMOUTH <br />COMMERCE PARK. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth desires to submit an <br />application for an allocation of funds of up to $1,000,000 through the Virginia <br />Department of Transportation Fiscal Year 2006-2007 Revenue Sharing Program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, these funds are requested to fund street and infrastructure <br />improvements to Cavalier Boulevard and McLean Street in the Portsmouth Commerce <br />Park estimated to have a total cost of $8,000,000. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth hereby expresses its support for this application for an allocation of <br />$1,000,000 through the Virginia Department of Transportation Revenue Sharing <br />Program." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, D.
