Due to
uncontrollable increases in the inmate population, the original
amount contained in the Provisions - Jail line item of his
budget totaling $500,000 will be exhausted before the end of
the fiscal year~ however, inmate meal expenses will continue to
be required.

The Sheriff, as the legal custodian of prisoners confined
in the City Jail, is responsible for the well being of the
inmates. This includes providing adequate meals to the
inmates.

I concur with the Sheriff's request for $100,000 in his
Provisions - Jail line item and recommend that you favorably
consider a motion to transfer this amount from the Budget
Contingency (Emergency)-"
