July 27, 1993 <br /> <br /> I, therefore, recommend the approval of this grant.award <br />and the transfer of $91,411 from the Grants Contingency <br />Account." <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. King, and seconded by Mr. Epperson, to <br />transfer $91,411 for continuation of the Special Prosecutor <br />appointed through the Southside Association of Commonwealth's <br />Attorneys (SACA), was adopted'and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Epperson, Griffin, Hawks, King, Pitts, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />93-299 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption <br />a motion to transfer $31,917 from the Grants Contingency <br />Account for continued funding of the Victim Witness Program. <br /> <br />of <br /> <br /> "The Victim Witness Program in our Commonwealth's <br />Attorney's Office has been approved for continued funding of <br />their grant from the Department of Criminal Justices Services. <br />This~grant was approved in the a~ount of $31,917, requiring no <br />City match. <br /> <br /> This program has been in existence since 1976 and provides <br />crucial services needed by citizens in Portsmouth when they <br />become victimized by crime. The program goals for fiscal year <br />1993-94 include: <br /> <br />1. Providing direct services to 592 victims; <br /> <br /> 2. Assisting 190 victims in filing for crime compensation <br />resulting in $220,000 ~n awards; and <br /> <br /> 3. Having direct contact with over 5,000 victims and <br />witnesses to crime. <br /> <br /> I, therefore, recommend the approval of this grant request <br />and transfer of $31,917 from the Grants Contingency Account." <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. King, and seconded by Mr. Epperson, to <br />transfer $31,917 for continued funding of the Victim Witness <br />Program, was adopted and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Epperson, Griffin, Hawks, King, Pitts, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />- NEW BUSINESS - <br /> <br />93-300 - Boards & Commissions <br />No appointments at this time. <br /> <br />93-301 - Mayor Webb requested an ordinance be created to <br />enforce the contract between SPSA and private solid waste <br />disposal companies to dump at SPSA. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Griffin, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to have <br />an ordinance prepared for Council's discussion and <br />consideration concerning the dumping of solid Waste at SPSA by <br />private disposal companies, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />On motion meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m. <br /> <br />APPROVED - <br /> <br /> f mayor Senior Deputy City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
