July 27, 1993 <br /> <br /> At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, July <br />27, 1993, there were present= <br /> <br /> Mayor Gloria O. Webb, Vice Mayor Lee E. King, Johnny M. <br />Clemons, John H. Epperson, Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., *James C. <br />Hawks, Cameron C. Pitts, V. Wayne Orton, City Manager, StUart <br />E. Katz, City Attorney. <br /> <br />93-288 The following call for the meeting was read= <br /> <br /> "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be <br />held in the City Council Chamber, 6th floor, City Hall <br />Building, 801 Crawford Street at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 27, <br />1993, for the purpose of a Public Work Session. <br /> <br /> In addition, you may consider a motion to go into an <br />Executive Session. <br /> <br />By order of the Mayor." <br /> <br /> 93-290 The following items were discussed in the Public <br />Work Session: <br /> <br /> 1. Introduction of the new General Registrar <br /> 2. Use Permit/ABC License <br />3. River Point Residential Development <br />4. Highland Biltmore Sewer Project <br />5. Workers Compensation Benefits <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Epperson, and seconded by Mr. Clemons, to go <br /> into Executive Session pursuant to provisions of Section <br />· 2.1-344 of the Code of Virginia for the following: <br /> <br /> (1) Consideration of appointments to Boards and <br />Commissions by City Council as permitted under Subsection <br />(1); <br /> <br />(A) <br /> <br /> (2) Discussion or consideration of the acquisition of <br />property for public use and use of publicly held real property <br />in the southern and downtown portions of the City as permitted <br />under Subsection (A) (3); <br /> <br /> (3) Consultation with the City Attorney and briefing by <br />staff pertaining to a matter of probable litigation involving <br />jail operations, the Superfund matter and a matter of actual <br />litigation (Sterling case) as permitted under Subsection (A) <br />(7) . <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Hawks, and seconded by Mr. Epperson, <br />pursuant to Section 2.1-344.1 of the Code of Virginia <br />certifying that to the best of the Council member's knowledge <br />during the immediately preceding Executive Session of the City <br />Council: <br /> <br /> (1) Only public business matters lawfully exempted from <br />open meeting requirements by the Virginia Freedom of <br />Information Act, and <br /> <br /> (2) Only such public business matters as were identified <br />in the motion by which the Executive Session was convened, were <br />heard, discussed or considered in the meeting by the City <br />Council. <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />On motion meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />APPROVED - <br /> <br />Senior DepUty City Clerk <br /> <br />*Councilman Hawks arrived at 5:22 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br />
