July 27, 1993 At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, July 27, 1993, there were present= Mayor Gloria O. Webb, Vice Mayor Lee E. King, Johnny M. Clemons, John H. Epperson, Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., *James C. Hawks, Cameron C. Pitts, V. Wayne Orton, City Manager, StUart E. Katz, City Attorney. 93-288 The following call for the meeting was read= "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the City Council Chamber, 6th floor, City Hall Building, 801 Crawford Street at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 27, 1993, for the purpose of a Public Work Session. In addition, you may consider a motion to go into an Executive Session. By order of the Mayor." 93-290 The following items were discussed in the Public Work Session: 1. Introduction of the new General Registrar 2. Use Permit/ABC License 3. River Point Residential Development 4. Highland Biltmore Sewer Project 5. Workers Compensation Benefits Motion by Mr. Epperson, and seconded by Mr. Clemons, to go into Executive Session pursuant to provisions of Section · 2.1-344 of the Code of Virginia for the following: (1) Consideration of appointments to Boards and Commissions by City Council as permitted under Subsection (1); (A) (2) Discussion or consideration of the acquisition of property for public use and use of publicly held real property in the southern and downtown portions of the City as permitted under Subsection (A) (3); (3) Consultation with the City Attorney and briefing by staff pertaining to a matter of probable litigation involving jail operations, the Superfund matter and a matter of actual litigation (Sterling case) as permitted under Subsection (A) (7) . The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. Motion of Mr. Hawks, and seconded by Mr. Epperson, pursuant to Section 2.1-344.1 of the Code of Virginia certifying that to the best of the Council member's knowledge during the immediately preceding Executive Session of the City Council: (1) Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and (2) Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion by which the Executive Session was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in the meeting by the City Council. The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. On motion meeting adjourned. APPROVED - Senior DepUty City Clerk *Councilman Hawks arrived at 5:22 p.m.
