<br />AUQust 22, 2006 <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The Virginia Commission for the Arts has several grant programs, including the <br />Local Government Challenge Grant. <br />. This grant has been received for the past 4 years in support of the Seawall Art <br />Show that is in its 36th year. <br />. This grant of $5,000 will be used to assist with the cost of presenting the awards <br />to the professional artists who exhibit in the show. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The Seawall Art Show is an annual outdoor juried art show scheduled August 26- <br />27, 2006. <br />. It will feature 95 fine art and fine craft artists from the Southeast and beyond. <br />. A volunteer supported event, it offers an opportunity for professional artists to <br />exhibit and sell their works, and invites the public to browse and purchase. <br />. The 36th annual Seawall Art Show will provide the people of the Hampton Roads <br />region and thousands of summertime visitors to the area an art show of high quality, an <br />event that is lauded by the artists as one of the art shows that they most like to attend. <br />. Proceeds from the art show support exhibits at the Courthouse Galleries. <br />. Financial Impact: A cash match is required and this has been met by the <br />$15,000 appropriation that the City Council provides to the Museum and Fine Arts <br />Commission for their award program. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />Adoption of proposed ordinance. Vision Principle: A Robust and Prospering Economy <br />and Lifelong Learning Community. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br />. Awards will be made at the dinner and awards ceremony following the show on <br />August 26. <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Randall, and seconded by Ms. Psimas, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHALLENGE GRANT FROM <br />THE VIRGINIA COMMISSION FOR THE ARTS IN THE AMOUNT OF $5,000 AND <br />APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT IN THE FY 2006-2007 GRANTS FUND BUDGET <br />TO BE USED FOR THE COST OF PRESENTING AWARDS IN THE 36TH ANNUAL <br />SEAWALL ART SHOW." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, D. Smith, R. Smith, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />06 - 383 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting $7,500 from the Commonwealth of <br />Virginia Department of Mental Health Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse <br />Services and appropriating said amount in the FY 2006-2007 Behavioral Healthcare <br />Services Fund Operating Budget for co-occurring training and technical assistance. <br />Vision Principle: Neighborhood and Community Transformation. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The Department of Mental Health Mental Retardation Substance Abuse Services <br />is allocating $7,500.00 to each community ser vice board/state hospitals/institutes to <br />improve Co-Occurring treatment and infrastructure. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. Virginia Service Integration Program (VASIP) is federal funds that are allocated <br />for implementation of Co-Occurring training and technical assistance for CSBs and state <br />facilities. <br />. Financial Impact: There is no financial impact to the City. <br />
