Septe~ub~r 14, 1993 <br /> <br /> At a Regular Meeting of the City Councit held on Tuesday, <br />SePtember 14, 1993, there were present: <br /> <br /> Mayor Gloria O. Webb, Vice Mayor Lee E. King, Johnny M. <br />Clemons, John H. Epperson, Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., James Co <br />Hawks, Cameron C. Pitts, V. Wayne Orton, City Manager, Stuart Eo <br />Katz, City Attorney. <br /> <br /> ReVerend David Denny, Cradock Baptist Church, opened the <br />meeting with prayer which was followed by the Pledge of <br />Allegiance to the Flag. <br /> <br /> Mayor Webb called the meeting to order and welcomed all in <br />attendance. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Epperson, and seconded by Mr. King, the <br />minutes of a Called meeting on August 23, 1993; a Special <br />Meeting on August 23, 1993; a Called Meeting on August 24, 1993; <br />and a Regular Meeting on August 24, 1993; a Called meeting on <br />August 31, 1993; a Special Meeting on August 24, 1993 were <br />approved, and were adopted and by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />93-349 Medal of Honor presented to Deby Jones, Sr. for saving <br />the life of Robert Jones. <br /> <br />93-350 - Resolution extending congratulations to the Churchland <br />Girls Softball Tournament Te~m for its successful 1993 Season. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Pitts, and seconded by Mr. Hawks, to adopt <br />the following resolution and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITYOF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, TO THE CHURCHLAND GIRLS <br />SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT TEAM FOR ITS SUCCESSFUL 1993 SEASON. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Churchland Girls Softball Tournament Team has <br />won first place in the following tournaments in which it played <br />in 1993 in the 14 and under age group: ASA Virginia Beach <br />Season Opener Tournament; NSA Virginia State Tournament; USSSA <br />Virginia State Tournament; USSSA Commonwealth Games of Virginia <br />Tournament; ASA Woodstock Weekend Tournament (16 and under age <br />group); and the ASA East Coast Championship Tournament; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Coaches Jimmy Wescott, Bill Britt and Mike Pearson <br />are to be commended for their successful efforts; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, April Wescott, Ann Murden, Stacey Hundley, Blanca <br />Vasquez, Shelly Carter, Wanda Jones, Norma Johnson, Michelle <br />Pearson, Latricia Williams, Sandy Jenkins, Jean Zimmerly, Gwen <br />Bremby, and Terra Bost have represented their community and the <br />City of Portsmouth in a conunendable manner throughout the <br />Commonwealth of Virginia. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the Council hereby recognizes <br />these accomplishments and extends its congratulations to the <br />Churchland Girls Softball Tournament Team." <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Epperson, Griffin, Hawks, King, Pitts, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />93-351 - Presentation of a resolution to the Churchland Girls <br />Softball Tournament Team for its successful 1993 Season. <br /> <br />93-352 - Proclamation presented to Jane White, President of the <br />Daughters of the American Revolution, Fort Nelson Chapter, and <br />Dorothy Hill, Committee Chairman, for "Constitution Week". <br /> <br /> <br />
