<br />93-485 - Letter from the City Manager re=onunending adoption of a
<br />motion to transfier $22,175 from the Grants Contingency AcCount
<br />for participation in a Tree Planting Program.
<br />
<br /> "The ~irginia Department of Forestry has awarded to the
<br />City of POrtsmouth a grant of $12,096 for its "Tree Planting
<br />Program" proposal through the Small Business Administration
<br />Natural Resources Development Grant Program. This ~unount is 55%
<br />of the funding, and local funding ($10,079) will come from
<br />donations funded by the Portsmouth Area Council of Garden Clubs
<br />commemorative Tree Program.
<br />
<br /> The sites of highest priority that were included in this
<br />grant request are:
<br />
<br />* 8th and Jefferson Playground
<br />* City Park
<br />* Median Plantings at Towne Point Road overpass
<br />* Median at Byers Avenue and Beaton Street '
<br />* Street tree plantings on portions of Lindsay Avenue, Beech
<br /> Street, Dowries Street, Killian Avenue, Maple Avenue,
<br /> Belafonte Drive, Cavalier Boulevard
<br />
<br /> The Director of Leisure Services recommends approval. I
<br />concur and recommend your approval of this motion to transfer a
<br />total of $22,175 from the Grants Contingency Account for this
<br />program."

<br /> Motion by Mr. Griffin, and seconded by Mr. King, to
<br />transfer $22,175 for participation in a Tree planting Program,
<br />and was adopted by the following vote:

<br />to conduct several traffic safety projects.

<br /> Motion by Mr. King, and seconded by Mr. Griffin, to
<br />transfer $26,000 to conduct several traffic safety projects, and
<br />was adopted by the following vote:

<br />93-487 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of a
<br />motion to refund $46.88, with interest, to Robert M. Miller, Jr.
<br />for real estate taxes assessed and paid in error for FY 1992/93
<br />
<br /> Motion by Mr. King, and seconded by Mr. Epperson, to refund
<br />$46.88, with interest, to Robert M. Miller, Jr., for real estate
<br />taxes assessed and paid in error, and was adopted by the
<br />following vote:
