Verle Weiss to be reappointed for a three year term ending October 31, 2008. <br /> <br />Kenneth Woolard to be reappointed for a three year term ending October 31, 2008. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to close the <br />nominations and the above nominations were adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />05 - 443 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Psimas, and seconded by Mr. Moody, to adopt the following <br />resolution and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE CITY COUNCIL'S CONTINUING SUPPORT FOR <br />THE PLANNED EXPANSION OF THE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM OF VIRGINIA. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Children's Museum of Virginia was originally designed as and <br />has been a successful anchor for the renovation of Downtown Portsmouth; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Children's Museum of Virginia has also been a strong <br />educational institution that encourages imagination, questioning, and a lifelong love of <br />learning, with exhibits that tie into the Standards of Learning (SOL) requirements for <br />students in Portsmouth Public Schools and beyond; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Children's Museum of Virginia, which welcomed more than <br />165,000 visitors in 2004, including 20,000 Portsmouth residents and students, is much <br />more than a regional museum, with a strong market across the Commonwealth of <br />Virginia, and annual visitors from every State in the Union and beyond; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the planned expansion of the Children's Museum of Virginia was <br />included in the non-appropriated subsequent planning years of the City's Capital <br />Improvement Program approved by City Council on May 3,2005; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Portsmouth City Council's support for the planned expansion <br />continues to be unwavering, and City Council intends to provide funds for the project as <br />part of the Capital Improvements budget process for FY 2009 and subsequent years. <br />
