<br />June 28. 2005 <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $182,500 from the Edward Byrne/Community <br />Oriented Justice Grant Program to the Portsmouth Adult Drug Treatment Court for <br />continued operation of the program. No City cash match required. Vision Principle: <br />Neighborhood and Community Transformation. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br />. The responsibility of overseeing the Portsmouth Adult Drug Treatment Court will <br />rest with the Third Judicial Circuit, Circuit Court of the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Mr. Heretick, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $182,500 FROM <br />THE EDWARD BYRNE/COMMUNITY ORIENTED JUSTICE GRANT PROGRAM <br />AND APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT IN THE FY 2005-2006 GRANTS FUND FOR <br />THE PORTSMOUTH ADULT DRUG TREATMENT COURT." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />05 - 285 - Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $114, 080 from the Fund for the <br />improvement of Education to the Portsmouth Museums for an after school visual and <br />performing arts program at Brighton and Churchland Elementary Schools and at all of <br />the middle schools in Portsmouth. No City cash match required. Vision Principle: <br />Lifelong Learning Community. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The purpose of this grant is to provide cultural opportunities that will allow students <br />more exposure to the performing and visual arts. <br />. Visual and performing arts programs help to develop good communication, critical <br />and analytical thinking, creativity, problem solving, and decision making skills. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The museum director will be the project manager for the grant and will keep the <br />Office of the City Manager, the Museum and Fine Arts Commission, and the <br />Portsmouth School Board updated on the status of the programs. The City Council <br />liaison will provide information to the City Council as appropriate. <br />.
