February 13, 2001 <br /> <br />COMMUNITY CRIMINAL JUSTICE BOARD <br /> <br />Judge Dean W. Sword, Jr. to be appointed to fill an unexpired term ending June 30, <br />2003, replacing Judge Von L. Piersall. <br /> <br />C. W. "Luke" McCoy to be appointed to fill a two year term ending June 30, 2003. <br /> <br />INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY/PORTSMOUTH PORTS INDUSTRIAL <br /> <br />COMMISSION <br /> <br />Harrison J. Perrine to be appointed to fill an unexpired term ending December 31, 2004, <br />replacing David Tynch. <br /> <br />DOWNTOWN DESIGN COMMITTEE <br /> <br />Philip A. Weber to be reappointed to fill a three year term ending January 31, 2004. <br />COMMISSION OF ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW - CRADOCK/OLDE TOWNE/ <br /> <br />TRUXTUN <br /> <br />Willie Gene Roberts to be reappointed to fill a two year term ending March 31, 2004. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Griffin, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to close the nominations, and <br />there being no further nominations, the above nominations were adopted by unanimous <br />vote. <br /> <br />01 - 54 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br />Councilman Pitts spoke in opposition to tattoo parlors. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Griffin appealed to the Citizens to learn as much as possible about <br />diversity during the month of February which is African American History Month. <br /> <br />Councilman Robinett commented on gas bill letter and announced a public hearing <br />by Columbia Gas Company. <br /> <br />Councilman Moody asked that gas rates be compared by Portsmouth, Chesapeake <br />and area cities and suggested a Portsmouth location to meet residents. <br /> <br />Councilman Robinett recognized the Vann Lefcoe Class present tonight. <br /> <br />01 - 55 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />1. Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, 363 Middle Street, spoke on the difficulties of residents of <br /> Fairwood Homes. <br /> <br />2. Sandra Johnston, 4507 Griffin Street, spoke on the closure of the Powhatan Avenue <br /> public boat access ramp. <br /> <br />3. Carlton M. Carrington, 3 Jamal Court, spoke on the Bonne Villa apartments. <br /> <br />4. Lee King, 1504 Belafonte Drive, spoke on unacceptable and deplorable housing of <br /> Bonne Villa apartments. <br /> <br />Lucinda Pitt, 252 Dorset Avenue, President of Fairwood Homes Civic League, <br />spoke about the residents and senior citizens who live in and will have to move from <br />Fairwood Homes. <br /> <br />Roy L. Perry-Bey, 7510 Granby Street, Suite 207, Norfolk, VA, spoke about cities <br />not having the legislative authority to ban tattoo parlors. Also, spoke on housing <br />discrimination, racial profiling, economic racism and environmental racism and a <br />need for financial assistance for residents. <br /> <br /> <br />
