<br />February 22. 2005 <br /> <br />. Last year, the Victim Witness Program served more than 1200 victims and 300 <br />witnesses. <br /> <br />. These funds will contribute to the City Council's vision of Neighborhood and <br />Community Transformation by helping to elevate the livability and feeling of safety by <br />citizens. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />. This grant is a reimbursable grant funded 100% by federal dollars with no cash <br />match required. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF <br />CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $310,430 AND <br />APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT IN THE GRANTS FUND THE VICTIM WITNESS <br />ASSISTANCE PROGRAM." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />05 - 76 - Adoption of an ordinance to accept $230,876 from the U. S. Department of <br />Homeland Security through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and <br />to appropriate the same amount in Grants Fund for the law Enforcement Terrorism <br />Prevention Program (LETPP). <br /> <br />These funds will be used to develop capabilities for detecting, deterring, <br />disrupting and preventing acts of terrorism by providing specialized equipment <br />and training. There is no local match required. Vision Principle: Neighborhood <br />and Community Transformation. <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br /> <br />. Adoption of an ordinance to accept $230,876 from the U.S. Department of <br />Homeland Security through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and <br />to appropriate the same amount in Grants Fund for the Law Enforcement Terrorism <br />Prevention Program (LETPP). <br /> <br />Summary: <br /> <br />. These funds will be used to develop capabilities for detecting, deterring, disrupting <br />and preventing acts of terrorism by providing specialized equipment and training. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />. The U. S. Department of Homeland Security has approved a grant through the <br />Virginia Department of Emergency Management for the Police Department's LETPP. <br /> <br />. The grant funds will be used for equipment and training to enhance the Police <br />Department's ability to support a State level response to WMD and terrorism incidents. <br /> <br />. Specifically, funds will be used for a state-of-the-art mobile command center fully <br />equipped with emergency communications technology and for training in <br />CBRNEIWMD and other incidence responses to command staff from the police and <br />sheriff's departments. <br /> <br />. These funds will contribute to the City Council's vision of Neighborhood and <br />Community Transformation by ensuring community safety and creating true <br />communities of choice for the 21st Century. <br />
