September 28, 2004 <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· The United States Department of Justice has approved a grant under the Bureau of <br />Justice for the Police Department's LLEBG Program. <br /> <br />· These grant funds will be used to provide additional funding for public safety in <br />support of Neighborhood Quality. <br /> <br />· Specifically, fund will be used for technology, equipment, training and crime <br />prevention initiatives. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />The United States Department Justice has awarded the City $79,550 for the Police <br />Department's LLEBG Program. A local cash match of $8,839 is required for a total <br />grant award of $88,389, and the grant has been budgeted in the Police <br />Department's budget for FY2004. <br /> <br />· There is no obligation from the City once the grant ends. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Heretick, and seconded by Mr. Smith, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE TO ACCEPT A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $88,389 FROM THE <br />UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE AND TO APPROPRIATE SAID SUM <br />IN THE GRANTS FUND TO SUPPORT THE 2004 LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT <br />BLOCK GRANT (LLEBG) PROGRAM FOR VARIOUS LAW ENFORCEMENT <br />PURPOSES." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />04 - 367 - Adoption of an ordinance to accept a grant from the U.S. Department of <br />Criminal Justice Services, to appropriate the same amount in the Grants Fund for this <br />community corrections program, and to authorize a local probation officer position for <br />nine months. <br /> <br />The City plans to implement a program designed to divert subsequent offenders <br />from jail and to assist them with employment and behavior management. There <br />is no local cash match required. <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br /> <br />· Adoption of an ordinance to accept a grant from the U.S. Department of Criminal <br />Justice Services in the amount of $31,875 and to appropriate the same amount in the <br />Grants Fund for the Community Corrections program. <br /> <br />Summary: <br /> <br />· With these funds, the City plans to implement a program designed to divert <br />subsequent offenders from jail and to assist them with employment and <br />management.
