Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, 363 Middle Street, commented on the process of <br />appointments and the hierarchy of the Boards and Commissions. <br /> <br />093 <br /> <br />04 - 336 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Mr. Heretick, that the City not install <br />traffic lights on the Clifford Street Bridge, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />~ Councilman Whitehurst requested information on the Charlestown Townhouses <br />filling bankruptcy and the current status of the Tazewell Apartments as well. <br /> <br />~ Councilwoman Randall announced the next Community Meeting to be held at <br />7:00 p.m., Monday, September 20, 2004, at Woodrow Wilson High School. <br /> <br />~ Councilwoman Psimas spoke on the decommissioning of the USS Portsmouth on <br />Friday, September 10, 2004. <br /> <br />04 - 337 - Report on Pending Items <br /> <br />· Report on Services for Senior Citizens - Dr. L. Pettis Patton <br /> <br />04-338- Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />1. Helen Person, 600 Rutter Street, Apt. B, commented on good news she received <br /> from the City about the benches to be installed in the downtown area. Also, she <br /> commented on mailboxes at Westbury that continue not to be accessible by seniors. <br /> <br />Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, 363 Middle Street, spoke on rumors that Council will <br />change its rules to eliminate non agenda speakers from being televised. <br /> <br />3. Joanne Chupik, 3408 Shoreline Drive, Chairman, Commission on Aging, spoke on <br /> the Aging Commission and its purpose. <br /> <br />4. Janice Bullin, 3708 Swan Court, spoke on grass issues and commented on her <br /> neighbor's e-mail to a member of Council. <br /> <br />5. John Coates, 4617 Mallard Crescent, spoke on public access television. Also, he <br /> read Supreme Court history on the 1st and 14"~ amendments, and commented on <br /> e-mail communications. <br /> <br />6. G.S. Hale, 117 Shore Drive, commented on activation of a new civic league, and <br /> the Clifford Street Bridge project as the primary reason for its reactivation. <br /> <br />7. Elizabeth Stoke, 1 Elmhurst Lane, commented on the firing of the contractor by the <br /> City and the rehiring of the contractor by VDOT with regard to the Clifford Street <br /> Bridge. Also, she asked Council to act quickly on behalf of the citizens. <br /> <br />Maynard Scales, 626 High Street, spoke on watching the City Council meetings on <br />television and challenged the City to take advantage of his time and talents to serve <br />on Boards and Commissions. He also volunteered to assist senior citizens with <br />grass cutting and other jobs. <br /> <br />Martha Ann Creecy, 317 Dinwiddie Street, complimented the City Manager on the <br />letter she received about her flooding issue and questioned the Council retreat being <br />held out of town. <br /> <br /> <br />
