The City will utilize its 2004 Fire <br />Programs funds for the local match ($28,477). <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $94,924 in the Grants Fund for the <br />purchase of fire safety equipment, physical fitness equipment, and for fitness training <br />programs for Fire and EMS personnel. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· The purpose of the grant funds is to implement a wellness/fitness program for the <br />239 operational (Fire and EMS) department members. <br /> <br />· In addition to improving the health and fitness of department members, secondary <br />benefits include reduced severity of unavoidable injuries, improved aerobic capacities, <br />and lifestyle changes. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· The Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded the Fire Department <br />$94,924 from the FY 03 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. <br /> <br />· Federal funding from FEMA is 70% ($66,447) and City funding is 30% ($28,477). <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Pitts, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $94,924 IN THE GRANTS FUND FOR FIRE <br />EQUIPMENT AND TRAINING PROGRAMS." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Randall, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />04 - 81 - Adoption of a resolution to name the Neighborhood Facility Playground located <br />on Elm Avenue in honor of Mrs. Ruth Freeman-Hendricks. <br /> <br />04 - 82 - Adoption of a resolution to rename the Neighborhood Facility located on Elm <br />Avenue in honor of Mr. Thomas E. "Jeff" Norman. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Griffin, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to refer 04-81 and 04-82 <br />back to the Parks and Recreation Commission, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> <br />
