This program provides comprehensive information and direct services to crime victims and witnesses in accordance with the Crime Victim and Witness Rights Act and other applicable victims' rights laws. There is no local cash match required. Recommendation: · Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $285,210 in the Grants Fund to support the Victim Witness Assistance Program. Purpose and Need: · This program provides comprehensive information and direct services to crime victims and witnesses in accordance with the Crime Victim and Witness Rights Act and other applicable victim's rights laws. · During 2003, this program has assisted more than 1,200 victims and 300 witnesses. · It is projected that the program will serve more than 1,500 victims and 450 witnesses in 2004. Financial Impact: · This is a reimbursable grant and there is no local match required. Motion by Ms. Randall, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to adopt the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: "ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $285,210 IN THE GRANTS FUND TO SUPPORT THE VICTIM WITNESS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM." Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Randall, Whitehurst, Holley Nays: None 03 - 393 - Adoption of a resolution supporting the application to the U. S. Department of Justice for the Weed and Seed Program Grant in the amount of $875,000 over a five-year period for the Nehemiah Vision neighborhoods. The City is currently applying for $175,000 in funding for fiscal year 2004 and must apply for renewals during the four successive years. Applying for the first-year grant award as well as additional funding for the four successive years will eliminate the need for Council actions to approve future Weed and Seed applications.
