There is no local cash match <br />required. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $285,210 in the Grants Fund to support the <br />Victim Witness Assistance Program. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· This program provides comprehensive information and direct services to crime <br />victims and witnesses in accordance with the Crime Victim and Witness Rights Act and <br />other applicable victim's rights laws. <br /> <br />· During 2003, this program has assisted more than 1,200 victims and 300 witnesses. <br /> <br />· It is projected that the program will serve more than 1,500 victims and 450 witnesses <br />in 2004. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· This is a reimbursable grant and there is no local match required. <br /> <br /> Motion by Ms. Randall, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $285,210 IN THE GRANTS FUND TO SUPPORT <br />THE VICTIM WITNESS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Randall, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />03 - 393 - Adoption of a resolution supporting the application to the U. S. Department <br />of Justice for the Weed and Seed Program Grant in the amount of $875,000 over a <br />five-year period for the Nehemiah Vision neighborhoods. <br /> <br />The City is currently applying for $175,000 in funding for fiscal year 2004 and <br />must apply for renewals during the four successive years. Applying for the <br />first-year grant award as well as additional funding for the four successive years <br />will eliminate the need for Council actions to approve future Weed and Seed <br />applications. <br /> <br /> <br />
