3?2 Julv 22, 2003 <br /> <br />CRANEY ISLAND STUDY COMMISSION - SUFFOLK APPOINTMENTS <br /> <br />Jackie Taylor to be appointed for a four year term ending June 30, 2007. <br /> <br />Sallie Sebrell to be appointed for a four year term ending June 30, 2007. <br /> <br />Mar[ha McClees to be appointed for a four year term ending June 30, 2007. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Griffin, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to close the nominations, <br />and there being no further nominations, the above nominations were adopted by <br />unanimous vote. <br /> <br />03 - 261 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Griffin announced having vacancies on some of the boards and <br />commissions and appealed to citizens to apply. Aisc, he spoke on the Todi Festival <br />and encouraged citizens to attend. <br /> <br />Councilman Pitts spoke on the Clifford Street Bridge closure and requested a status <br />report. <br /> <br />Councilman Moody spoke on the Maersk presentation by Richard Hartman and Tara <br />Saunders at the West Norfolk Civic League meeting and suggested arranging for the <br />information to be aired on Channel 48. Aisc, he spoke on amending the City Code, <br />adding language pertaining to post employment of Council, certain appointees and <br />employees. <br /> <br />Councilwoman Randall spoke on trash being visible in front of vacant buildings while <br />traveling McLean Street, Elliott Avenue and Greenwood Drive to Victory Crossing. <br /> <br />Mayor Holley spoke on a public relations effort for the Todi Festival in the community <br />to inform Portsmouth citizens of the events. <br /> <br />Councilwoman Randall spoke on encouraging churches to bring senior citizens in <br />vans from the nursing homes to enjoy the Todi activities. <br /> <br />Mayor Holley had Ken Wheeler announce the new Portsmouth reporter from the <br />Virginian Pilot, Ms. Katrice Franklin. <br /> <br />Councilman Moody recognized Ms. Helen Person and acknowledgea her efforts in <br />the demolition of Washington Park. <br /> <br />02 - 262 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />1..Richard Cleveland, 1731 Maple Avenue, President, Prentis Place Civic League, <br /> spoke on new properly owners making multi-family units out of single-family homes. <br /> Aisc, he requested that City Council deny any vanances. <br /> <br />2.
