June 24, 2003 At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, June 24, 2003, them were present: Mayor James W. Hplley II1~ Vice Mayor Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., Cameron C. Pitts, J. Thomas Benn Ill,, Charles B. Whitehurst, Sr., Marlene W. Randall, Deputy City Manager Douglas Smith, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman. 03 - 215 - The following call for the meeting was read: "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the City Manager's Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 6th floor, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 24, 2003 for the purpose of a Public Work Session. In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. By order of the Mayor." 03 - 216 - The following items were discussed in Public Work Session: 1. On-going work at 700 High Street - Ozella Scott 2. New Public Utilities Customer Information System - James R. Spacek 3. Clarke Environmental Mosquito Control Program Repod - John Neeley 4. Leisure Services Summer Programs - Mike Morris 5. Port Events - Catherine Mason 03 - 217 - Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to go into Closed Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2~3711(A) of the Code of Virginia, to discuss Or consider the following: appointments by Councit to boards and commissions. The subject matter of the meeting is the discussion of candidates for possible appointment to City boards and commissions. The purpose of the meeting Js to protect the public interest in having qonfidential discussion of those candidates and their possible appointment. The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. Motion by Mr. Pitts, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, pursuant to Section 2;2-3712(D) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members' knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: 1. Only public business mattem lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by the Virginia Freedom of'Information Act, and Only such public business mattem as were identified in the motion by which the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in the meeting by the City Council.
