March 25, 2003 <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH'S PARTICIPATION <br />IN THE CERTIFIED CRIME PREVENTION COMMUNITY PROGRAM. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the New Partnership Commission for Community Safety (the <br />"Commission") was created by Executive Order of the Governor in 1988 with a charge <br />to advise the Governor on new initiatives to promote community safety, particularly <br />youth and family safety; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, at the Commission's request, the state Department of Criminal <br />Justice Services (DCJS) developed the Certified Crime Prevention Community Program <br />("the Program") to publicly recognize and certify localities that have implemented a <br />defined set of community safety strategies as part of a comprehensive community <br />safety/crime prevention effort; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, participation by a locality in the Program has such advantages as <br />using the Certified Crime Prevention Community Program designation as a marketing <br />tool for new residents, tourists, businesses, conference planners, etc., receiving local <br />preference in the state criminal justice grant application process, and obtaining <br />reductions from insurance companies; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is to the advantage of those individuals residing and conducting <br />business with the City that the City of Portsmouth participate in the Program. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that it hereby authorizes participation by the City of Portsmouth in <br />the Certified Crime Prevention Community Program and also authorizes and directs the <br />City Manager to take such actions as may be required to demonstrate the City's support <br />for the Program, including the execution of such documents as may be necessary." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Moody, Pitts, Randall, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />- New Business - <br /> <br />03 - 107 - Mr. Benn offered nominations for the following Boards and Commissions: <br /> <br />COMMISSION OF ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW PARK VIEW/PORT NORFOLK <br /> <br />Sallye C. DiVenuti to be appointed for a three year term ending March 31, 2006, <br />replacing Robert F. Blinn. <br /> <br />Daniel E. Schmit to be reappointed for a three year term ending March 31,2006. <br /> <br />COMMISSION OF ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW CRADOCK/TRUXTUN/OLDE TOWNE <br /> <br />Sara A. Steele to be appointed to fill an unexpired term ending April 30, 2004, <br />replacing Kelly Nolte. <br /> <br />Lionel D. Eatroff to be reappointed for a three year term ending April 30, 2006. <br />CLEAN COMMUNITY COMMISSION <br /> <br />Walter Broda to be appointed for a three year term ending June 30, 2006, replacing <br />Madalyn M. Grimes. <br /> <br />Charles S. Magruder to be appointed for a three year term ending March 31,2006, <br />replacing Raleigh Harsley. <br /> <br />Karen V. Butler to be reappointed for a three year term ending June 30, 2006. <br />Kimberly B. Little to be reappointed for a three year term ending June 30, 2006. <br />Mary E. Phillips to be reappointed for a three year term ending June 30, 2006. <br />Eleanor E. Thompson to be reappointed for a three year term ending June 30, 2006. <br /> <br /> <br />
