<br /> The AuditOr reported cancelled coupons t~ amount of $18,545.95, and the City Collector sent in
<br />the Delinquent Tax Lists for year 1907, and the said reports were referred to the Joint Finance
<br />Committee°
<br /> A communication was read from E. L. Smoot of Washington, D. C., in regard to a City ef Ports-
<br />mouth $100 bond held by him, the said bond not signed by the President of the Oity Council. The commun!ca~on was referred to the Joint Finance CommitTee.

<br /> The chairman of the Finance Committee requested a~u adoption of the following resolution:
<br /> Resolved, That the Treasurer .be and he is hereby authorized to renew anote for seven thousand
<br /> dollars ($?,000), due April l~, 1908, in the Bank of Portsmouth; to curtail and renew a note of fi~-
<br /> ~" 1~08; and to curtail and
<br /> teen thousand ($15,000), due in the Merchants and Farmers B~nk May ~,
<br /> new a note of eight thousand dollars ($8,000), due in the Bank of Portsmouth M~y l?, 1908; and the
<br /> said notes to said amounts are to be renewed upon the same terms and conditions as were proposed by
<br /> the several banks and adopted by the City Council January
<br /> The resolution was adopted by the following vote:

<br /> On motion, the invitation was accepted and the 0ommittee from the Council requested to attend.

<br /> On motion of chairman of the ~ub ~c Property 0ommittse the Board of ~upervisors of Norfolk
<br /> county was requested to give permission to the City to build a Glerk~s office and Council 0hamber
<br /> on the south east corner of the Court House yard.
<br /> On motion, the 0ouncil decided to go into an election to fill a vacancy on the body caused by
<br /> the ~eath of Mr. Jno. J. King.
<br /> Whereupon, ~r. ~ithy nominated L. C. Brinson to fill said vacancy, and, there being no other
<br /> nominations, he was elected by the following vote:
