April 15, 1908. <br /> <br /> It is recommended that the said election be confi~edo <br /> <br /> Referred by Common Council January l~th. <br /> <br /> A request of the Norfolk 0ounty Annex Hose 0ompany for the loan of a hose cart formerly used by <br />the Chambers Fire Company. <br /> <br /> It is recommended that the request be granted, with the understanding that the hose cart <br />is to be returned when called for by the City and in as good condition as when borrowed. <br /> <br /> Referred by Common Council December 10th. <br /> <br /> TO lock into the manner in which Gaselene, kerosene and electric wiri~g~ handled in the City. <br /> <br /> It is recommended that this matter be referred to the Ordinance and Fire committees joint? <br /> <br />ly for examination and report. <br /> (Signedt Chas. Common Council. <br /> Gentlemen:--Your Ordinance Oommitteerespectfully reports <br /> <br />herein concerning the several matters referred to the Joint Ordinance 0ommttteeby the two branches <br />of Council March 10th and February llth and 18th, as follows: <br /> <br /> Referred by Common Council March 10th. <br /> <br /> An ordinance to prohibit a department from expending monthly more than one-twelfth of its an- <br />nual appropriation, plusany unexpended balance for the preceding' month, without permission of the <br />Oouncil therefor. <br /> <br />The proposition has been referred to the City Attom~ey for his opinion as to its <br /> <br />legality. <br /> <br /> An ordinance to require fire-escapes for theaters; that hose be placed on the stages of same, <br />connected with water plugs and ready for use; and that all of their doers shall open outward. That <br />all P~tic school houses two stories high shall be provided with fi~e-extinguishers, and that all <br />doors of the same shall open outward. <br /> <br /> ~e report progress in the m~tter of Fire-extinguishers, &c., for themters; and recommend <br />that the provisions for public school houses be referred to the School Board. <br /> <br /> Referred by Common Council February lltho <br /> <br /> ~n ordinance directing the Southern States Telephone Company to install the same kinds of in- <br />struments and switchboards in Portsmouth as it uses in Norfolk. Progress as to same. <br /> <br /> An ordinance requiring telephone companies to <br />that charges f~ same sh~ll not exceed the charges <br />message. Progress. <br /> <br /> A request of the Board <br /> <br />transmit messages to and from each other, and <br />at pay stations cf the company first sending the <br /> <br />of Health that the "health ordinances'~ be ready for publication by next <br /> <br />spring. Progress. <br /> <br /> An ordinance to regulate the prices to be c?~rged by public <br />sons and baggage. <br /> <br />conveyances for transporting per- <br /> <br />We report that this matter is already regmlated by ordinance as far as it is legal so to <br /> <br />regulate it. <br />An <br /> <br /> Referred by Board of Aldermen February 18th. <br /> <br /> omdinance to require pawnbrokers to m~ke daily reports to the ~yor of articles in pawn. <br /> <br /> Progress as to same. <br /> <br /> An ordinance--That on complaint of a property owner within isixty feet of a bill-board the same <br />shall be removed, or else the entire prmises on which the blll~board is located shall be enclosed. <br /> <br /> Progress as to same. <br /> <br /> <br />
