<br /> To appropriate $4,000.' for maintenance of the public schools in the Sixth and Seventh wards, v-

<br /> To appropriate $3~000. for pay of ~eachers and janitors of public schools in the First Second,
<br />Third, Fourth and Fifth wards, for September, 1909.. '
<br /> To authfrize the Treasurer to m~ke notes in the several 0ity bs~uks to amount of $7,000, to meet j
<br />the appropriations for the public schools, as set forth above.
<br /> To make award to Porter & Moore to supply ~he City with 1000 feet of fire hose at 79 cents perv
<br />foot.
<br /> To make award to the Qus~ker City Rubber Company to supply the City with 1000 feet of fire hose~
<br />at 75 cents per foot.
<br /> To instruct the City Attorney to employ assistant counsel, if he may thi-nk it necessary, to
<br />draft a contract with the Shone Oompany to supply the Fifth Ward sewerag.e with ~ejectors," and to
<br />eompbl the Water Oompany to co~uect with flush tanks and taps in said ward.

<br /> The regular reports oS ~Offioers for September were presented by'the Clerk. and were ordered
<br />to ta~e the usual course.

<br /> City Council of the City of Portsmouth.
<br /> "Gentlemen:--
<br /> ~"At a meeting of the Local Board of Improvement on October 6th it was decided that
<br />in order to meet the fixed expenses and to complete improvement work already under way and to make
<br />much further needed improvements, to petition your honorable body to authorize the Treasurer to
<br />range for a loan of $6,572.00 on interest, to be appropriated to this ward for the following im-
<br />provements:

<br /> "The need of the appropriation is due to the failure of the Sixth Ward to receive the benefit
<br />of the 1909 ts=es which are being held up by action of the County officials, and further, that the
<br />Ward will not receive the benefi't of further licenses until the spring of the coming year.
