<br /> The resignation of ~r. H. V. A. Parker as a member of the Board of Harbor commissioners was read,
<br /> ~ccepted, and filling of the vacancy on said Board caused by his resignation was referred to z joint
<br />~session of the two branches.
<br /> The resignation of Mr, Charles 0wins as a member of the 0ommon Council was re~d and was accepted.

<br /> Mr. JoPmsonmoved to refer ~to the Joint Fire 0o~ttee to consider 'the advisability of having
<br /> ~formed the p~id men of the Fire Department. The motion was adopted~
<br />
<br /> He then moved that the, paid men of the Fire Del~r~ent shall be nominated for their respective
<br />positions by the Joint ~ire Committee, and their election shall be ~ade by the Council,
<br /> After some discussion of the motion it was lost.

<br /> ~Lv. Hawks moved that ~r, Bascom Sykes be employed after J~nuary first, at a salary of $150,

<br /> The chairman of the Finance Committee presented thefollowing resolutioh~
<br /> Resolved, that the Treasurer be a~d he is hereby authorized to renew notes in The Bank of
<br />Portsmouth, The Merchants ~nd F~rmers B~nk, and the First Nationsl B~_k of Portsmouth, to amount of
<br />thirty-eight thousand ($58,000) dollars, or as much of that amount as m~y be necessary, the said
<br />notes to be repaid from the revenues of the current year,
