<br /> The advisability of locating a fire hydrant at the corner of the South street road and First
<br />aven~e in the Seventh Ward. Progress as to

<br /> Reoommi~ted for further consideration an opinion o5 the City Attorney that the pay for hydr~ts
<br />in the Sixth and Seventh wards should come out oS the funds of said wards.
<br /> We have reconsidered the matter with the 0ity Attorney and have been able to reach but one
<br />conclusion, n~mely: that the 0ity is u~uder no obligation legally to pay for the water hydrants in
<br />the Sixth ~ud Seventh wards.

<br /> The chairman of the Li~t ~ommm~tee reported progress in regard to applmcatmon o~ the

<br />Portsmon~n & Norfolk 0orporation for an extension of time to supply the 0ityv~th lights, which s~id
<br />
<br />matter was referred ~o the Gonmmittee November 9th.

<br />Sewerage--
<br /> The chairman 'of the Sewerage Committee presented a rep,~t by which w~s recommended
<br />
<br />that Mr. Bases Sykes should be retamned in the service of the 0ity after January m..Jrs ~, at a pay of
<br />
<br />$150. per month, for the purpose of superintending the D!ecing of "ejectors" in the Fifth Ward; but
<br />
<br />the 0h~ir ruled that the _epor~ ~d recommendation wars out of order, as the question of retaining
<br />
<br />Er. Sykes for the purpose n~med had never been referred to the 0ommittee to oonsider.~
<br />
<br /> Mr. Brinson asked what ~ad become of the report of the joint Finance and ~blio Property com-
<br />mittees in regard to e Olerk*s office and site for same which had been referred to said committees
<br />at the last meeting of the Council, with instruction ~o report on the matter within thirty days.
<br /> ~e ~hamrm~n of the ~&blic Property Committee answered that the commmt~ees had not ye~ got to-
<br />gether on th~ matter.
<br />~hereupon, the joint report of the Finance and P~blic Property committees Novembe~ 95h was called
<br />for and read, in which recommendation was made that the 0lark's office be built on east side of courths.
<br /> Mr. Brinson then moved that the report be adopted, and after some discussion of the proposition,

<br />First. ~atters adopted by the 0ommon Gcuncil Eovember 9th and referred to the Board of Alder-

<br />men for concurrence.
<br /> To authorize the Joint Street ~om~ittee to met wi~n a committee of the
<br />A. For the estabiishenmt of a public Wharf.
<br /> To gran~ a request of the Treasurer to renew nates in the several 0ity baz~s for
<br /> To direct the Treasurer to ta~ke up the note gdven the Sinking Fund Oommission for $2,550 bor-
<br />rowed of the Si~king Fund.
<br /> To authorize the Joint Fire 0ommittee to advertise for bids to put twelve fire-alarm-boxes in
<br /> the Sixth and Seventh wards,
<br /> To appoint a Committee to act with a committee of the B. M. A. for a oonferenee with officials
<br />of the Atlantic ~oast Line Railroad ~nd the ~ou~hern-Railway in regard to locating a joint freight
<br />and passenger depot in the 0ity.
<br /> All of tbs above were concurred in.
<br /> The Board of ~ldermen concurred also in all recommendations of committees adopted by the 0om-
<br />men Council, except the proposed contracts of Huybert &Dunt~mm for removing trash from the streets
<br />-and for supplying horses to be used with the street sweeper and-sprinklers, and the recommendation
<br />of the Water Oommittee in regard to pay for street hydrants in the Sixth and Seventh wards; these
<br />two matters were reoo~'m~.tted by the Board.
