Bell had put in his bill in full <br />time for tpproval by the-clnairmen of't~e proper committee, but that said chairmen had failed to <br />prove and. therefore, it was not passed by the Auditing Committee. ~r, Johnson added that as the <br />bill was correct, was due, and had been approved bY the chairmen of the Joint Police Committee sub- <br />sequent to meeting of th8 Auditing ~ommittee, he would move that it be paid. <br /> The motion was adopted. <br /> <br />The resignation of Mr. T. S. Lawrence as a member of this body was read and was accepted. <br /> <br /> Er. Jno. Howard Hall moved that the City Engineer be instructed to prepare at once hDs specifi- <br />catio~ for paving the several Oity streets it is intended to pave and to advertise for bids to do <br />such paving; also that the Traction. Company be asked as to what it proposed to do in connection with <br />street work plied for the Sixth and Seventh wards. <br /> The motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> By the same. To appoint a committee of five to confer with a committee of the B. M. A. and with <br />con, trees of the several labor organizations in the City to wait on the Secretary of the Navy~ if <br />necessary, in regard to the employemnt of enlisted men to do work in the Navy Yard, as a substitute <br />for the regular mechanics there. <br /> ~he motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> The chadrman -of the Public Property Oommittee said he wished for instructions as to advertising <br />for bids to supply the p~olic buildings v~ith fuel, because his dep~rtment had no funds on hand with <br />which to pay for the s~ne. <br /> On motion, an appropriation for purchase of T4 tons of a~thr~cite coal and 25 cords of pine wood <br />was referred to the Joint FinanC~ Oommittee, ~nd authority w~s given to ask for bids to supply fuel. <br /> <br /> 0~motion offer. Jo2mson. the .City Attorney .w~s instructed to give his opinion as to eligibility <br />of citizens o~ the Sixth and Seventh wards to serve on, the Board of Police Oommissioners, and the <br />right of members of the Council from said wards to be on committees which =eeommend appropriations <br />of the City's funds. <br /> <br /> ~r. Tyler moved that the Joint Street Committee consider the advisability of establishing small <br />docks at the east ends of High and Henry streets, and to t~ke charge of and repair the landing at the <br />end of said High street. <br /> The motion was adopted. <br /> (~ Crosm excused from further attendanceS. <br /> <br /> The chairman of the Public Property 0ommittee called attention to poor condition of sleeping <br />quarters for the paid men of the Ohambers Fire Company, and requested that something be done in the <br />matter. Whereupon, on motion of N~v. Jno.
