Hon. Common Council.

Gentlemen:--Your Etreet 0ommittee res~pectm~ally reports as to the

following matters refer=ed to the Joint Street Committee September 13th and August 9th:'
~" Referred by Common Council September llth. Y J

To consider work to be done on the streets in the Sixth Ward by the Norfolk & Portsmouth
tion Company in connection with Streetlmprevements in said ward. t~ogress as to same,

(With Public Property Committee). A petition of the A~ex Hose Company for a good driveway
front of their engine house.
It {s recommended that the work be done at ~ cost of $75, out of Seventh Ward funds.

The b~ condition of Gosport bridge.
The Oity Engineer reports that it will cost $15©. to make good temporary repairs on this
bridge, and it is reoommended~that $150. be appropriated for such repairs.

Referred by Oo~mon Oouncil August

To make temporary'repairs to the bridge at the north end of Dinwiddle street,
This bridge is in such bad condition that it would be more economical to substitute a new
structure there than to.~ake repairs~ grid a 60 inch re-inforeed galvanized iron pipe to take the place
of the bridge would be far preferable and considerably cheaper; at the same .time the improvement would
be perm_e-~en~. The cost ef this pipe, according to estimates of the City Engineer, would be approXi-
mately $335.00,
It is recommended, therefore, that the ~ommittee be authorized te have the pipe constructed in
place of the bridge, provided consent cf the adjoining property owners can be obtained therefor.

Pre~ious!y referred.
"Dear Sir:--
~Chief Engineer Sodden has called my attention to the fact that in changing the tracks, as is
thus proposed, it may be necessary.ts encroach upon private property--that is, property owned by oth-
er l~rties than the Seaboard Air Zinc Railway. If this.be true, the City will, of course, arrange
with the owners of this property for the track location,
"Mr, Sodden states that he explained this to the City Engineer at the time. and I am calling your
attention to it to prevent the possibility cf misunderstanding,
"Yo~r application to the Council involved first,- the opening of High Street through the proper-
ty of Seaboard And Roanoke Railroad Company, which is granted; and second,-a re-adjustment of the
tracks on Td~..t ~oDerty, as suggested by the City Engineer and approved by your Committee, to this
