The Chai~an of the Public Property Co~mittee stated that the appropriation of $920.. made for <br />purchase of supplies for the Jail. previous to January let.. was not expended before that bate and <br />consequently the Auditor had turned over said amount to credit of the General B~nd. He asked.there- <br />fore. that said amount off $920- be re-appropriated for jail supplies~ <br /> The request was referred to the Joint Finance Co~n~Ittee. <br /> <br /> A very forceful communication was read from the ~udge of the Hustings 0curt in regard to the <br />building of a Clerk's office. <br /> Whereupon. Hr. Brinson moved that the communication be referred to the ~ablic Property and Fi- <br />nance Committees. jointly, with request that they consider the advisability of building a City HalI <br />to contain the clerk's office on the ~old jail lot.~' at a probable cost of $100.000. <br /> The motion was adopted, and the Clerk was inst:~acted to notify Judge Bain of action of the Coun- <br />cil in the matter. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Reynolds. the Joint Ordinance Committee was instructed to consider an ordinance <br />for establishing a Board of Plumbing Inspectors. <br /> <br />On motions, the following other matters were referred to-- <br /> <br /> Finance-~ommittee-- <br /> ~o.laday. for self. High Constable and Jury <br /> A bill of the Coroner. Dr. G. April. and Hay. 191i. <br /> A comm~mication from the Water Company eoncexming certain bills due it and sertain taxes which <br />~ claim had been collected from it illegally. <br />~ Bill of ~'. ~. V. Staples. to amount of <br /> Petition of the Salvation Army for an appropriation of $82.98 to supply ice water. &c.. on the <br />streets during the coming s~as~on~ the said amount having been expended for that puPpose by the A~my <br />during the past season. <br /> Petition of A. B. Seiener to be released from pa~ent of certain taxes on a Halson Street lot. <br /> An appropriation to supply the A~e~ Fire Hose Company with a be!l. at a cost of <br /> To have all contracts, resolutions. ~nd ordinances adopted concerning the Portsmouth.
