This proposition is subject to the approval of that Oon~ittee. <br /> <br /> "As at present advised by co'musel, we ars not liable for any paving sxpense upon London Street. <br />If we can~ agree, we will waive this point for this particular paving, without prejudice to the rights <br />and privileges of the company hereafter. Subject to this understanding, our proposition is as fei- <br /> <br /> "First. that instead of using girder rail~ as requested by the 0ity Engineer. we request that <br />we be allowed to use the 81 penn&high T rail-this for reasons heretofore given to your Oommittee <br />~nich it is probably unnecessary to restate here. <br /> <br /> ~Sscond.~ that instead of using plastic pavement between the r~ils, or creosoted wooden block, we <br />be allowed to use vitrified brick, because of its greater ~earing qualities in the area traversed by <br />th~ railway tracks, using, if desiredby your committee or the 0ity Engineer the Ligonier or Leopold <br />block alongside of and touching the rails° The work to be done in a thorough and wor~anlike manner <br />with patent joints, and similar in every respect to the work now being completed by this company on <br />01ney Road and ~otetourt St. in the City of ~orfoik, ~ith ~he exception that,~ because of the lighter <br />travel on the streets to be paved in ~ortsmouth. the concrete in depth to agree ~ith the specifications <br />of your Engineer, ~ich we understand is five inches. <br /> <br /> "Third, we agree that the specifications, upon which we award our contract are to be approved by <br />the 0ity Engineer and that he is to have supervision of the work during its progress. <br /> <br />"Fourth, should the 0ouncils or your Committee decide to park certain of the wide streets upon <br />which we have track, ws will agree to the propesition made by your co~uittss to pay the cost of curb- <br /> the neutral ground - that is~ the parts through ~nich our tracks run- <br /> of such curb. ~nd if called upon. to plant hedge of 0slifornia pti- <br /> such strip or neutral ground or area set apart for the s~reet rail- <br /> <br />~President." <br /> <br />~Very t~ yours, <br /> <br />have no reason to doubt that our ~mecutive Committee will approve this proposition." <br /> <br />~ortsmouth.
