Barlow, <br /> Chairman, B. of A. <br /> <br /> On motions, the ordinance for granting a franchise to the Portsmouth & Norfolk Corporstion to <br />light the CiSywith electricity was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes--Lsng~orne, Walker~ Ballentine, Adams, Goodson~ Montague, Williams, Murray, Stroud, <br /> And the ordinance to establish two Captains of Police, by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes--L~r~horne, Walker, Ballentine, Adams, Geodson, Mont~gue, Williams, Y. <br /> <br />Sewerage and Wster--- <br /> Hon. <br /> <br />9 <br /> <br /> Bo~rd of Aldermen. <br /> Gentlemen:--Your joint Sewerage mnd Tater committees <br /> <br />to whom was referred, with the City Attorney, a communication from the Suoerintendent of the Water <br /> <br /> Company in regard to attaekment of meters on sewerage flush tsnks~ respectfully report as follows: <br />The committees and the City Attorney have met and discussed the proposition with the Superintendent <br />of the Wmter Company but could arrive at no satisfactory result with thim. <br /> <br /> He insisted upon, and he made the Committees fully understand, that his eompany would notmake <br />water connection with the flush tanks and taps in the Fifth Ward unless the consent of the Council <br />should be previously obtained fo~ use of the meters thereon. Therefore, as the Committees are <br />vised that the City of Portsmouth has the right of use of water of the ~ater Company for'~ublie pub- <br /> <br /> poses snd uses," and as it is absolutely necessary to settle at once the question of right of the <br />City to use without cost to it the water necessary for flushing the sewer pipes, it is recom~.ended <br />that the City Attorney be directed to take the necessary steps immediately to compel the Water Com- <br />pany to connect with the flush tanks and taps in the ~ifth ~ard ar~ ~l~o with the City incinerator. <br /> <br /> (Signed) W.
