June 15, !909~ Fire-- Hon. Bo~rd of Aldermen. Gentlemen:-=Youm Fire Committee respectfully reports as to the following mmtters referred to the Joint Fire Co~m~ittee M~y llth and lath: Referred by Common Council May llth. (With Ordir~noe Committee). A re-arrangement of the Fire District. Progress as to same. Referred byBoard of Aldermen May 18th. Reports of the Chambers' and the Park View fire companies of paid firemen elected by them for the otL~rent year~ and requestLng eonfirmmtion of their action by the Council. It is recommended that the following n~med paid men of the Fire Department be confirmed in thei~ election: Prom the Chambers' Fire Oompany~- Btmting, Driver of Engine; J. F. Riehmrdson, Driver of Wagon; R. A. Alexander~ Wagorm~n. Prom the Park View Fire ~. M. Smi~h~ Engineer; ~. T. 0raft~-Firem~n; G. R. Ballentine Driver of Engine; J. E. Travers~ Driver of Wagon. To examine aud report as to ne=essity for additional fire hose. We have so ex~mined, and recommend %he purchase of additional fire hose to amount of 3,000 feet a~d that the Committee be authorized to advertise for same. To examine and report concerning three see%ions of fire hose turned over-to the Fire Department for trial~ by W. W. Bain~ agent. Progress as to same. The Committee fur%her recommend that they be allowed S50: or as much thereof as m~y be necessa- ry, to construct a rack at the Park View engine house for the purpose of drying fire hose. The following is recommended therefor: AN ORDINANCE GRANTING TO THE "PORTSMOUTH AND NORFOLK CORPORATION" A FRANCHISE FOR'LIGHTING WITH ELEOTRICITY ~ STREETS, PUBLIC BUILDINGS~ PRIVATE RESIDENCES, PI~CES OF BUSINESS, A~ID OTHER BUILD- INGS AND PLACES WITHIN THE CITY.
