The Mayor,returned his approval also to the following matters adopted by the two brmnches of Council August 12th and 17th: Appropriations-- t800 for the Boston Wovem Hose Compamyto supply the City with 1000 feet of fire hose. To pay the Norfolk & Portsmouth Tractiom 0ompany such i~terest as mmy be due it in settlement of appraisement of the Norfolk Coumty Ferries. To authorize the Treasurer to borrow $15,000 of the several City bar, ks to meet curremt expenses of the City for August, 1909. To pay Wm. H. Gleasom of India~polis~ Inddmma $500 to mudit the books of the several City of- ricers for one year,-amd $450 per year for each precedimgyear of said auditing. To allow $250 to pay expenses of a delegatiom to a meeting of the League of Americam ~u~icipat- ities at Montreal, August 25th; a~d To m~ke award to Lewis I~wson of Norfolk, Va., to lay concrete sidewalks mhd roadways in the Fifth_ ~sa-d, as per his mccepted bid for the same. The following resolution was adopted-in connection with the appropriation of $?,000 for the pub- lic schools, recorded on page 21: - ' Resolved. that the 0ity Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized to borrow from The Bank of Portsmouth. The Merchants and Farmers Bank, and The First National Bank of Portsmouth, the sum of $?,000 (for benefit of the public-schools), to be repaid from the revenues of the current year, and to execute the-Oity,s no,es for the same.
