<br /> On motions, the City Attorney was instructed to apply for an order of court to authorize the
<br /> sale of the old house on ?ni~d street, and the bills of the ~ater Companies were referred to the
<br /> Joint ~ater Committees.

<br /> The Nayor returned also his approval of the following resolutions and ordinances adooted by the
<br /> two branches of Council Becember 20, 1910, and January 10-!1-I~, 1911:

<br /> An ordinance to increase the pay of the Judge of the Hustings Court to $~800. per

<br />and to fix his pay.
<br /> An ordinance to amend and renew an ordinance for the issue of~o0,000 of School Bonds; $12~,000
<br />of P~v~ing and Street improvement Bonds; ~,500 of Sixth Ward Improvement Bonds; and $~7,~00 of Sevent2

<br /> The Nmyor~s message for 1911 was presented and was referred to the Joint Finance Committee;
<br />while the several recommendations made therein, viz: To set aside one-half of the Ferry receipts to
<br />take up City Notes; for reducing the tax ~ate on real estate; for the establishment of public docks;
<br />a roller bridge for the Gosport causeway; tO take c~h~rge of and keep in repair the landing mt the
<br />feo~ of High street; free portable shower-baths; a public comfort station; sanitary drinking foun-
<br />tains; a building ¢o.~e; a building inspector~ to codify the City ordinances; an ordinance for putting
<br />into effect the "Gieason system of aecounts;~ better ~uarters for the inmates of the Almshouse; ad-
<br />visability of changing the na~e of "Almshouse;" to obtain a Sharp-Miller photometer for testing elec-
<br />tric meters; a testing machine for gas meters; a testing m~ehine for water meters; to investigate the
<br />"flash-light system" for use of the Police Force; to instruct the City Attorney to obtain an order
<br />of Court for selling an abandoned eld house on ?nird street--were referred to their proper Committees.

<br />_~nird. Reports of Officers and other unfinished business.
<br />
<br /> The regular reports of Officers for January were presented and were ordered to ts~e the usual
<br />co~rse.
<br />
<br /> In accordance with the instructions therefor the City Engineer reported that he had ~erified the
<br />n~r~ber of mil~e of the several railroads in the City proper and in the Sixth and Seventh Wards, as-
<br />sessed by the State Corporation Commission, and found the said assessment to be correct.
<br />
<br /> A report from the Sixth Wa~d r~oo~l Board ~tated that said Ward had examined the application of
<br />~. Dowdey for the privilege to slaughter hogs in that Ward, and that tne~ ~ had declined to approve of
<br />the same. ~he report was ordered to be filed.
<br />
<br /> The Clerk of the Court forwarded a certified copy of the order of Court for a special electdon to
<br />be held J~nuary 18, 1911 to authorize the is~e of$800~000 of bends for the erection of water works,
<br />ac., ~t~ting in s~id copy that said issue of bonds had received a majorit~ vote therefor.
