<br /> Gentlemen:-- Your Finance Committee respectfully reports here-

<br />in eoncerning the following matters referred to the Joint Finance 0ommittee July lt-18, J~zue 13, and

<br />July 25, 1911:

<br /> Authorized to make notes in the several City banks from time to time, to amount of $55,000, in
<br />order to re-imburse the PavingBend funds to that amount,
<br /> It is re~ommended~that the Treasurer be authorized to make said notes from time to time,
<br />and that the following resolution be adopted therefor:
<br /> Resolved. that the Treasurer be, and he is
<br />hereby, authorized to make nates in The B~nk of Portsmouth, The Merchants' & Farmers' Bank, the Bank
<br />of Tidewater, and The First National Bank of Portsmouth. to amount of Fifty-five Thousand Dollars
<br />($55,000.00), in order to re-imburse the Paving Bond funds; said amount to be repaid from revenues
<br />of the City for the current year.
<br />
<br /> An appropriation, not in excess of $200, for employment of an agent to take up the m~tter of ex-
<br />tending Hatton street to High,
<br /> This matter was re-referred to the Joint Street 0ommittee by the Board of Aldermen July
<br />lSth, and we await the report of said Oommittee thereon.
<br />
<br />$1500. for additional pavement on Effingham street.
<br /> It is recommended that said a,mount be allowed, out of the new Bond Issue.
<br />
<br />A special appropriation of $185, for certain work at the house of the Annex Fire Company.
<br /> It is recommended that said amount be not allowed,
<br />
<br />$25, out of appropriation to Public Property, for repairs to roof of UnionFlre Company's house.
<br /> It is recommended that a special appropriation, to said amount, be allowed.
<br />
<br /> (With Public Property 0ommittee), To arrange for turning over the City Halt to the Chambers'
<br />and Hook & Ladder Fire 0ompanies.~ Progress,
<br />
<br /> A petition of 0has. Eltiott, driver of the Union Fire Oompany, to be ~aid for three days lost
<br />from duty in February, on account of sickness. Progress.
<br />
<br />$2.28~. to pay for 2500 feet of fire hose.
<br /> It is recommended that said amount be allowed.
<br />
<br /> One light at the intersection of the Hampton Place and Washington street, and another at the
<br />corner of Green and Bart streets. PrTgress,

<br /> To authorize the Treasurer to renew notes, to amount of $15,~00, due August 31, 1911.
<br /> It is recommended that t~e authority be granted, and that the follow~ng resolution be a-

<br />ell to send delegates to its next meeting September l~-15, 1911.
<br /> It is recommended that the delegates be so sent, and that an appropriation of $25. be
<br />lowed for the purpose.

<br /> A bill of 01erk of the Oourt, for $_~?0; Oity S~erg~ant, $250; 0. N. Earkham, $200, for services
<br />in connection with the re-assessment of Cmty real estate, Progress.

<br /> (With Sewerage Oommittee~. A petition of firemen at the Sewer POwer House for ~ ten day leave
<br />of absence. Progress.

<br /> The following bills held up by the Auditor, because of lack of funds for them:
<br />$65.60; 0ontingent, $2.95; Public Property, $17.75.
<br /> It is recommended that special appropriations be made to pay said bills.
