<br /> The regular reports of Officers for November, 1911 were presented and were ordered to take the
<br />usual course.

<br /> A communication from the City Attorney, in which he recommended that the City dismiss the in-
<br />junction proceedings recently obtained against the Water Company by certain citizens of the Seventh
<br />Ward, to which the Oity was a~party, was read and was adopted.
<br />
<br /> The Oa~o~ Gf~fice of W. H. Shackelford and W. E. Whitehurst, as me~bers of the Seventh Wa~d
<br />Local Xmp~ovement-Board, were presented and were ordered to file.

<br /> The bonds off J. W. Booth & Bro. and of I. C~ Brink!ey for ~upplying the City with medicines
<br />and with rations, respectively, were on motion referred to the Joint Finance Committee.

<br />NEW BUSINESS.
<br />
<br /> A petition of the Stewarts of Central M. E. Church and sundry other citizens on Washington
<br />street for a continuation of the proposed pavement of Washington street for
<br /> m~s entire length, was
<br />read and said petition, together with suncbvy other petitions of the same character, was referred to
<br />the Joint Street Committee.
<br />
<br /> A petition of the Park View Engine Company for repairs to the roofof their house, meeting
<br /> room, &c., was on motion referred to the Public Property Committee.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Davis said that he understood that the old stone owned By the City, at the north end of
<br />Washington street, ha~ been sold to Mr. A. Ogg by action of the Council, that said stone had not
<br />beencarried away by him, but had been moved by other parties, and he moved that this matter be re-
<br />ferred to the Mayor to investigate what disposal had been made of the stone and to ascertain why
<br />the action of the Counoit had not been carried out. The motion was adopted.

<br /> Mr. Williams offered the following resolution, which on motion of Mr. Langhorne was ordered to
<br /> lie on the table until the next regular meeting of the ~ody:

<br /> sw~B~AS, our citizens are required, with much inconvenience to them, to pay their taxes in
<br /> two different offices and to two different officers;
<br /> "AND ~HEREAS, such payment of taxes is made at a considerable additional expense to the City;
<br /> "AND~WHEREAS~ the office of City Collector may be abolished by an amendment to the City Char-
<br />ter therefor;
<br /> _~ ?RESOLVED by the Bo~urd of Aldermen, the Common Council concurring, that the General Assembly
<br />be petitioned through our representatives in that body, to amend the Charter of the City of Porte-
<br />mouth so.as to abolish the office of City Collector for same; said amendment to go into effect on
<br />and after January 1, 1~1~ when the term of office of the present City Collector will expire.
<br /> "RESOLVED, that the City Attom~ney be instructed to draft a bill for presentation to the Gene,.~
<br />ral Assembly in aoco~damce with the said petition."
<br />
<br /> Nr. Langhorne moved that the attention of the Street Committee be called to the condition of
<br />piling at the foot of Dinwiddie street. The motion was adopted.
<br />
<br /> By the same, that the attention of the Street Committee be ca, led to the condition of iron
<br />grating at crossings at the corner of LondOn and Court streets. The motion was adopted.
<br />
<br /> ~r. Nontague offered his resignation as a member of this body, t~ take effect from the first
<br />meeting of the body in January~ 1913.
