The Committee do not desire to recommend a precedent by which ~he City may be called upon hereafter to pay one-half the cost of laying granclithic sidewalks, but because of the p~ctlliar con- ditions under which this paving is requested it is recommended that the petition of A. H. Goodman be granted~ the total' cost of th? pavement to be $150.00, or $1.00 per yard, of which amount Er. Goodman and tn~ City are to pay $.50 per yard each. Authorized to take up with the Virginia Railway and Power Company the advisability of using a street sprinkler to be drawn on the electric railway tracks in the City. We have instructed the Clerk to obtain for the Committee the opinion of the City Attorney as to the right of the City to require the Company to use a street car for sprinkling the streets. A petition of Edward Overman and others for a bridge at the west end of Leckie street to con- nect with the east end of Sale street in West Park View. Progress ~s to same. A petition of ~nit Wilkins for improvement to condition of street on Race avenue~ between Wash- ington and Green streets. This petition has been referred to the City Engineer to ascertain what improvements are needed and to obtain cost of the same. A request of the Consolidated Investment Company, of Norfolk, to run a spur track on the Cat Hole ~a~f,~to connect with the Seaboard Air Line tracks. Progress. (With'City Engineer). Attention called to the condition of several lately paved streets. We report that we are looking into this matter. Advisability of opening Cooke etreet, between H~gh and King, and of paving the sidewalk of the sa~me, between Glasgow and High. We report that~this matter is .being handled by the Sixth Nard Local Board. To consider the matter of relieving the congestion of cars at the Ferry wharf by a route through Queen street to Crawford. It is recommended that such change of name be made, and that the Ordinance Committee instructed to prepare an ordinance therefor. be It is l~urther recommended that Glasgow street be paved: from Godwin street to the Scott Creek bridge, under our present contract for paving, at a probable cost of $9,000.00. That W~shington street be paved with Bithulithic for 5E feet between curbs, from South street to H~rrison, under our present ~ontrac~ for paving~ at a probable cost of $19~000.00. That Chestmut street be paved with Belgium block, from She south side of Glasgow street to the south side of South, and that the Committee be authorized to advertise for bids for such work. That the north side of Anne street be paved with granoiith, from Cooke ~treet to Butler, at an estimated cost of $48?.50. That the sidewalks on both sides of North street, between Pearl and Cogke, be paved with granotith~ and that said street be curbed and guttered, at.an estimated cost of ~1410.24. (Signed). S.T.
