February E0, 1913. <br /> <br /> The ~eport having been read, Nr. Privett moved that it be adopted. <br /> Er. Ballentine, to concur in action of the Common Council as to said report. <br /> Nr. Davis, to refer back to the. Committee to consider the several kinds of lights for street <br />!ighting and costs of same; with the understanding that the Council take over for the City after <br />March 1, 1913, all of the lights on High, Effingham, and County streets, now paid for by private <br />parties. <br /> The amendment was adopted, and then the report as amended. <br /> <br />Water-- <br /> <br />Hon. Board of Aldermen. <br /> <br />Gentlemen:-- Your Committee to whom was referred the <br /> <br />investi- <br /> <br />gation of the Water Pressure during the recent fire in Park View, which consumed the residence of <br /> <br />~. C. Syer on January l~, 191E, beg to report as fo~lows: <br /> <br /> Section X1 of the Water Contract provides that 'On notice of the Fire Department to the Water <br />Co.,-~for the purpose of extinguishing fires, a pressure of 100 feet shall be maintained in the dis- <br />tirbuting pipes at the pumping station to be constrUcted in or near the City of Portsm~ath, with a <br />guar~utee of a stream 50 feet in height from any i 1/8 nozzle, at the end-of 300 feet of <br />hose Attached to any hydrant in the City, until th~ fire is extinguished.' <br /> The gage in the Engine House of the Chambers Co. shows that water pressure was maintained as <br /> <br />follows <br /> <br />during progress of the fire in question: <br /> <br /> ~t 8:~ P. ~. a pressure of ~ pounds. <br /> " 7:00 <br /> 7:15 <br /> <br /> " 8:00 <br /> " 9:00 " <br /> " t0:00 ~ " " " B3 " <br /> " 11:00 " <br /> <br /> As we_:are advised by the Chief of the Fire Department that <br />quired to meet the requirements of the contract, we are of the <br />sure was at no time maintained during the progress of the said <br /> <br />at least a 50 pound pressure is re- <br />opinion that sufficient water pres- <br />fi~e. <br /> <br />(Si~ued). Board of Aldermen. <br /> <br />Gentlemen:L~ At a meeting of the Joint Ferry Oommittees of the <br /> <br />City Council and Board of Supervisors February 19th it was resolved to recommend to our respecmive <br />bodies that the .City Attorney and the Commonwealth Attorney of Norfolk County be instructed to draft <br />at once a bill for presentation to our delegates in the General Assembly, for amending section 1371 <br />of the Code, so as to authorize said City Council and Boa~d of ~pervisors to lease and manage the <br /> <br />Ferries in such manner <br /> <br />as they may determine <br /> <br /> to be to the best <br /> <br />(Si ed). W. Aiex~uder that the City pay a bill of $35.00, <br />son, who was hurt by a City iron grating falling on his foot. <br /> It is recommended that said request be granted. <br /> <br />for medical attendance to his <br /> <br /> <br />
