<br /> Mr. Markham moved to fill ~he vacancy on the Board from the Fourth Ward, which said matter had
<br />been ordered to lie on the table Nay ~lst. The motion was adopted.
<br /> He then nominated Ben. H. Foster for the position.
<br /> Mr. Nicholson nominated S. T. Montague.
<br /> Er. Ballentine asked.to have read a communication from democratic ~Fourth Ward meeting, recom-
<br />mending Mr. Montague for the position. The communication was read.
<br /> · ~ereupon, Er. Markham moved to defer action on this election until the next regular meeting of
<br />the ~dy. The motion was lost.

<br /> On motion of E.r. Davis, the advisability of an ordinance to prohibit dogs running on the streets,
<br />excepm when safely muzzled, was referred to the Ordinance Committee.

<br /> Mr. Davis moved that the Public Property Committee be authorized to proceed against the Ferries
<br />Company to recover cost of heating the City offices in the ferry building during oceupanoyby the
<br />City, said Company .having~contracted to furnish ~eat, light~ &c., for said offices.

<br /> Mr. Adams submitted a communication from Wm. M. Smith, Superintendent of the Fire-alarm System,
<br />concerning a charge made against the City by the Postal Telegraph-Cable Company for use of its poles
<br />for wiring, &c.
<br /> The communication was referred to the City Attorney for his opinion as to legality of said
<br />charge.
<br />
<br /> Er. Markham moved to refer to City Attorney and City Engineer to define the lines of Griffin
<br />street, between Court and Dinwiddie. The motion was adopted.

<br /> By the same, to refer to Street ~ommmtt~e the advisability of ~urb~ng, guttering and paving the
<br />north end of Fourth street. The
<br /> mo,!on was adopted.

<br /> By the same, to refer to Street Committee the advisability of paving sidewalks on Harrison
<br />street, between Fifth and Sixth. The motion was adopted.
